Alpine head unit not working with I-phone 6

Just bought my old car back and since previously owning it I have upgraded from an old iphone 5 to a i phone 6. The Alpine head unit iDA-X305S now does not work via the usb lead. I bought it 4 years ago specifically as only want to use with iPhone.
Do I have to now replace the head unit to a more modern one that will accept iphone6/bluetooth or do I need I new lead as head unit now says is not compatable.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

I have exactly, more or less, the same problem. Same Alpine unit but with a 5S.
I had to buy an third party adapter which did not work a year or two ago, I then bought the official adapter (£25 for that tiny thing!!!!) and it worked perfectly.
Then I upgraded to a new iOS later that year and it stopped working. Eventually after a couple of weeks it started working again and continued to do so until I upgraded to the new iOS just prior to Xmas just gone and it didn't work again. But it never seemed to come back. Tried lots to fix it, but no joy. Then just last week it came back to life and worked perfectly. Then several days ago, it gave up again and hasn't worked since. I was thinking that it might be a dirty connection in bottom of phone so gave it a good clean but still no joy.
It seems that it recognises the phone and continues to charge it, but will not play any audio.
Its a shame, as I found it was a brilliant little head unit that still works perfectly (aside of the iPhone issues).

If you want to use Bluetooth, you'll need to buy a KCE-400BT - http://www.alpine.co.uk/p/Products/bluetooth-and-u...So does that means buying a new head unit that is compatible with the iphone6 although I did notice on the manual that the head unit is bluetooth "ready".

They aren't cheap though!
