No this isn't a personals add !

After watching "The long way round" I feel like swapping my sports bike in for something that can handle a bit of dirt as well.

Seeing all that great scenery and watching the adventure unfold , made me want to try a bit of that myself. Although I would be on a tight budget, so greenlaneing is more probable than riding across continents.

Has anyone got any advice about off road biking holidays ?
Or what bikes(used) to look at for going on / off road and carrying a pillion fro time to time ?

there are a few off-road holidays appearing in the classifieds of most mags now. I think bryne-up do them for example. They head into the hills of spain, or some do africa.
I think bikes can be supplied?

Did the yamaha off road school 1 day in wales in december on 125cc 250cc and 400cc crosser bikes, which might be a good into off roading to start with.
My friends have the KTM's ewan didn't get and they are very capable bikes.

Ewens TV experience could make or brake a company as small as KTM in terms of PR, so Im sure its down to a business logic rather than the capabilities of the actual machine.

I'm about to test this...

I've got a KTM 950 adventure and am about to go overland between Oxford and Sydney via the middle east, India, SE Asia and into Oz. The aim is to go as far as possible without having to venture onto boat or plane. I bought the KTM after testing all the other contenders and I reckon I made the right choice. I'm pretty sure you are right about KTM as well, I don't think they could have afforded a disaster, but with hindsight...

Can't wait to go, basically just waiting for the weather to pick up and visas... Before then I'm up for any run outs etc.

check out www.xrv.org.uk

or www.dualsport.co.uk

Both sites have loads of members that swapped their babygrows for MotoX boots

on www.xrv.org.uk there are lots of people that have done mammoth mileage on their bikes 100,000 plus miles, and regularly go to Morocco / the desert to play in the sand, whilst others head north to NordKap (sp) to watch the Midnight Sun in Norway

Shortly doing End to End with a colleague - for charity mate!

Taking the BMW and his Yamaha FJR.

It's not off road or, hopefully, not even slightly off road but should be an adventure nevertheless.

Really looking forward to the fantastic scenery and roads in Scotland, so we're taking 'A' roads mostly and touring a bit on the way.

Should be fun!
