CF card - places to buy
Discussion
Who do people recommend to buy compact flash cards from? I am after a high-speed 1Gb card.
Does anyone have comparisons for, say, the 40x and the 80x - are they worth the difference?
I have a cruddy 512Mb card at the moment (1x speed I suspect!
) and I can't get rapid frames off. Not sure I am doing it right though. It's a D70, should I just be able to hold the shutter-button down or do I need to constantly press it to get burst frames?
I'd prefer reliability over cost but that said - if I can get both!...
TIA,
Phil.

Have a look at Rob Galraiths CF database to find out which one performs best with your camera - that will sort out the whole 40x/80x thing for you and should make the decision a no-brainer. www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007-6816
When you have found the one you want, I recommend www.valuemedia.co.uk - very good service.
You should have some kind of continuous shooting mode on the D70.

I went for a couple of 130x Sandisk Extreme III cards, and found that www.emartbuy.com was by far the cheapest place. Good service too.
The benefit you get from faster cards really depends on what camera you have - the speed database listed above should give you a very good idea of whether it's worth paying the extra.

I noticed a real speed boost when I went to a SanDisk Ultra II. E.G. It was quicker to erase the full 512Mb than erase my original 128Mb.
I believe SanDisk is a reputable manufacturer and have had no trouble with my card.
And this mob is selling the 1Gb CF for only £79 !!!

I've taken 24000 images with this camera and have only ever lost some when I got a glitch on a cheap card I bought with the camera. Nevr had a problem with my 128Mb SanDisc or the super whizzy 512Mb SanDisc Ultra II

What you want is a Sandisk Ultra II.
The consistently cheapest place to buy one of these cards is off eBay. I've used the seller FlashMan852 a lot of times and he is very good and reliable.
1GB Ultra II - £58 inc P&P
2GB Ultra II - £110 inc P&P

www.7dayshop.com always seems to have good prices for memory cards with good delivery (nearly always 2 days for me)
I'd also recommend www.valuemedia.co.uk.
Not as cheap as some on here, but reliable IME (no affiliation with them).
Some of these prices look very low!!

The guy I used above is from the US, If you buy from the US I have ordered SD cards on a friday and had them on my desk by Monday morning.
Never had to pay duty and because of the fantastic exchange rate and no VAT its an offer you can't refuse.
I would recommend the US guys over the Hong Kong ones
when using Ebay. Just pick one of the better known ones with tons of feedback
