porsche warranty
Discussion
does anyone know any good independent warranty companies that cater for porsche's?
Warranty Direct - no longer cover boxsters
Warranty Wise - won't cover private customer (only companies with large pool of cars)
Porsche - my last service was by an independent so not covered.
any ideas?

Does this really prevent you from buying an extended warranty from them? IIRC Porsche have two levels of warranty. The best one requires you to renew it annually from purchase from new...but I thought you could get *most* of the cover without that...
Worth asking?
I bought a year's warranty from Porsche for £750 which came with one years Porsche Assistance (Europe-wide) when my manufacturer's warranty expired. If I don't change the car I'll probably buy another year as it provides great peace of mind...
Please see below the answer which I have cut from the PCGB forum.

About 8.40 they ran a story about new law (evidently already in force) outlawing practise of manufacturers trying to invalidate a warranty if the vehicle is taken for service outside the official dealer network.

Just wondering if any of our intrepid members have risked the wrath of Reading by going to a non OPC before warranty has expired?
With my local OPC charging labour at a bargain £99 per hour, it's tempting...

A new version has been coming into force over the last few years slowly opening up the market to genuine competion which is where the change in servicing rights has come from.

Thanks - that's an informative website.
As the guy said on the radio this morning, there's nothing like a service book full of official dealer stamps to help the resale value....

Status: offline Whilst they have to honour the warranty, I doubt there would be any good will payments once this expires, if you dabble outside the OPC network. The other issue, is that it may not be possible to get the extended warranty of the OPC does not service the car.

I just got the following quote from my local OPC: You would have to carry out 111 point check at a cost of £250.00 and the cost of the warranty £725.00.
If the check is part of a regular service the check would be part of the service. Therefore no additional cost.
which opc was this?
I'm being told 111 point check is:
- free if car still under warranty
- £250 if out of warranty
- £100 if done at same time as service
my service is due may but warannty expires mid march and would rather have both done in may with the service
(but wonder whether 750 quid a little steep anyway)
thanks
Why bother with spending almost £1000 on a warranty which may be of dubious value come claim time. If you are buying a car which is used and outside the manufacturers standard warranty period, then I think you have to accept that age may take its toll on some items that are not 'service items'. If you have the car inspected well and leak tested, etc, then I don't think you should encounter too many surprises. Other than gearbox/engine or ECU I don't think there is much worth covering under warranty anyway is there? There is always a good market in secondhand parts out there.... Just because it's a Porsche, it doesn't mean 2nd hand parts are inferior to a brand new part - just that they cost less. People like EBSracing.com in the US often supply far superior parts at dollar prices for reference.
PS reading between the lines, and following several posts on this forum, it would appear that the independants often perform work to a higher standard than many 'parts fitting centres', sorry, OPCs. Under european law, the manufacturers cannot use their block exemption rules to prevent the independants purchasing the latest diagnostic equipment anymore.

If you have a leakdown test done and a good visual inspection for oil leaks, then I think you are in as good a position as any to decide if you think the car will be ok. If the big end bearings decide to go, then would this have been covered by the warranty anyway? If you are only wanting to buy the car with a warranty for fear of something failing then this suggests you perhaps either shouldn't buy the car, or should buy a cheaper car and set aside the remainder of the cash as an emergency fund to cover unforeseen events? IMHO of course.
Have you tried a company called Warranty Works. I recently took out a 3 year platinum warranty with them for my 02 Boxster S for £618 all up. The individual claim limit is only £2,500 per individual claim but you can make as many claims up to the value of your vehicle. They even cover RMS! In my view £2,500 should cover 99% of all problems and in the highly unlikely event of a blown engine it's still better to pay $7,500 instead of £10,000.
Morning All.
Warranty is really for peace of mind, I got my car inspected by RAC (who were crap) before buying it last summer. Since then RMS went, had to buy two new window regulators, one radiator and my RMS has just gone again - all would be covered by a warranty.
However Main issue is the small chance of the engine going, warranty works seems good, but £2.5k limit puts me off (at £618?, not much more for porsche £750 unlimited claim amount).
Spoke to warranty wise to double check, told me they will not cover boxsters anymore (unless through a car hire company) due to lot's of recent claims (same as warranty direct) also said she doesnt think anyone will cover them now apart from porsche themselves (Not sure if this is true?)
Personally for my peace of mind, I'll get the 111 point check done, replace RMS then get porsche warranty.
