Just come across a wobbly gear knob when I was having a nice Sunday drive out, got back home and it was that loose it just lifted off. The thread inside the gear knob itself is knackered..

Any suggestions on a replacement? Or does anyone have a spare i could possibly buy?
I mean ideally a nice aluminum replacement off racetech would be great but they ony seem to be for the v8s, I haven't got a clue where to source one for the S1 or what size thread is needed

Thanks in advance
Steve

IF you buy a replacement with a universal fitting (plastic sleeve & grub screws), you won't need to bother with the thread size.

i put a lovely chromed alloy MOMO one on mine, very expensive new but got it for less than £20 posted on ebay used, the grub screw type. put some electrical insulating tape on threaded shaft too to make it really nice and tight.

actually hulk, this was an old foto from years ago that was already a small enough file size for upload here, with close up of my lovely big shiney knob! this was years ago when still had tatty original dark brown seats and before i swapped 13" original wheel for the 12" moto-lita, now have lovely doeskin chimaera seats and still running on 7 out 9 screws ;-) and still have lovely big shiney knob, has really good feel in the hand, ooh er! (the MOMO is a keeper)!

looks alot tidier now, laugh great shiny knob that. I have actually got the same 12" steering wheel in mine too, just ordered a polished chrome boss with black & silver TVR logo (same as one on my new knob) for it in oppose to the crinkled black plastic one.. will upload some pictures when it arrives

Loving the chimera seats, were they a straight swap & fit for the 'S'?

almost a straight swap, unfortunately although the seats were in good condition, the runners were really rusty and the box section raisers at the front where totally rotten, took a lot of wd40 and bashing with a lump of 4x2 to free up the runners and i made new box sections out of stainless, the back of the runners were so rotten on one side i had to weld thick washers where the bolt holes used to be in order to have something to bolt through to floor. had to drill 2 new holes per seat in the floor as the holes did not quite line up but all in all if you had got a pair of seats with less rotten runners it would be a pretty easy install.
this is what hole in runner should have looked like, this was the front.

this is what the back of the runners did look like after i cleaned them up carefully

and this is what the rears looked like after i welded thick washers in to have something to bolt to floor! i guess it must have come from a leaky chimaera!

Glad its not just me who documents everything step by step with photos laugh
Great work, they really do liven the interior up! The TVR outline stitched into the headrests looks neat also

nice delivery waiting for me when i got in from work..

Polished alloy gear knob £21, great fit, grub screw etc, feels firm

And i thought id try a horn push wheel centre in a polished finish instead of the tacky plastic one, now the fit is about half a cm too small which i annoying but i can work around that with a rubber ring seal of some sort (or fork out for the chrome boss) the benefit is so i can have my horn push in the middle, so when a bafoon cuts me up on the road i can do my initial reaction an beep the horn not push the button on the stalk. cost £23 looks the business if i may say so myself

How do you get the wires to it?

Next on my oddjobs is connecting it up.. theres a spade connector on the inside of the horn push, will take off the top casing of the boss & then its finding the right spade from the left stalk an feeding it though hole in boss connecting up & wallah (in theory) or just letting the auto electrician do it laugh

Very good point! but hey even IF horn push doesn't work out.. It still looks pretty neat (polished alloy roof stays to match in a few weeks wink)
