My mate is selling a 50 inch Samsung smart tv which is plasma and about 3-4 years old. All in fine working order, seen it myself. I have an 7-8 year old Panasonic plasma 42 inch tv which i have been thinking of replacing.....for £100 i thought why not go for it as a stop gap until i get something better.

You guys think its worth it? Will be used for watching tv and occasional gaming.

Not sure on the model to be honest, I think I kinda agree, seems like a no brainer really.

Ridiculous how much they cost when you look back on it aren't they!

No, because I wouldn't want a 50" TV, but I love my Panasonic 37" plasma and will be sad when it needs replacing.

Like most people I buy lots of tech, but that (and maybe my iPad) is the one where I think "I'm really glad I bought this" every time I use it and I've had the TV a good few years now.

I'm in the same boat, very expensive Pioneer plasma now worth buttons. Pesky technology developments! Amazing normal definition picture on the old plasma but no HD meant it had to be replaced many years ago.

Buy it

Best thing about plasma is true black which most back lit LED OLED cannot match.
Motion is also better.
It will heat your living room

Down sides are
You may need an HD source it may not have freeview HD built in
It will need a power station to run it

It will be very heavy
It will be very heavy

Oh did I mention it will be very heavy
Don't even think about a swivel wall mount it will pull the house over.

But otherwise the nearest picture to this would cost you £1500 plus

The TV is actually fairly new in terms of design in that it is really thin and quite light. So that's not an issue luckily! My old Panasonic still works fine I just think this is too good a deal to update my TV cheaply so I have to go for it.

I bought a 6 year old Panasonic 46" for £150 and it works well. Everything bristolracer says is true. It's very heavy, gets quite warm (has 4 cooling fans in the back!) but the picture quality is great.

For that price you can't go wrong, and maybe allows you to wait a while for 4K sets to come down in price. That's my reasoning anyway.

Just make sure it's not the entry level one with gloss screen if it's going anywhere near a window. Ours is and on sunny days we spend more time looking at ourselves than watching what's on.

A six or seven year old 42" Panasonic plasma is a nice TV, if everything is working OK.

Why change it?

Because its a smart tv and it doesn't have the big surround to the screen like older flat screens do. Just more modern and nicer, plus it has a gaming screen setting that looks 10 times better than my Panasonic.

I had a 50" Sammy plasma and it knocks the spots off our current 50" lcd Panny. For £100, just get it.
