Well.. I've done it once. Now I sealed and bolted them back down, but want to pull one up to check something and can't for the life of me release the sealant this time. I used Loctite 5900 as I found recommended whilst searching. Any hint/tips?! Last time I used a lever down one of the front bolt holes and pulled them up. This time I am leaning on a 1/4 extension bar with a spanner adding leverage and getting no where.. I'm not exactly weedy either! laugh

Probably not the recommended way but I had similar issues and ended up driving a large screwdriver between the head and the front of the cam cover. The sealant flexed just enough to get a purchase and no damage done!

Yeah I am thinking I will have to try getting a thin edge between the cover and the housing..

Found myself in exactly the same situation, and in the end leverage was the only solution. I chose a place at the front where I knew the mating area was quite wide to minimize the chance of damage and future leaks.

Leverage and a very sharp broad wood chisel, not to cut into the metal but to find the gap and wedge them apart.

Cheers chaps! I will give it a go.. I was concerned about damaging the mating faces.

Before prising them up and potentially damaging the mating faces try giving them a whack with a hammer, obviously with a softer material (wood) to cushion the blow. They should be able to move fwd/back enough to break the sealant.

I use a hot air gun to get plenty of heat into them, then a few blows with a rubber mallet and they usually come away quite easily...

Not sure I can bring myself to bash my freshly powdercoated cam covers with anything! laugh

You could try a paint scraper under the front edge, I found it's thin and wide enough to be tapped under without doing any damage. Then once you have it under you can apply a constant pressure on it and the cam cover pops off.
