At work we have just upgraded to broadband (with Skymarket or something) . I used to have my own dial-up pay as you go with tiscali , and had outlook express configured for my e mail. I've copied over the settings (pop3 , smtp etc) to the new pc (XP,outlook)but to no avail , I can recieve but not send mail.

Is this possibly because I am no longer a Tiscali customer ?

Perhaps by accessing the server through means other than my old dial-up number my account won't work ?

Any ideas anyone ?

You are spot on. You can only send mail out through the Tiscali server if you are dialled in with them. The quick fix is to set the mail out server to be that of your new ISP.

Alternatively, leave it set as Tiscali and go into email settings and tick the box that says your outgoing server requires authentication (use incoming user name and password) although this fix might not work. Not sure on Tiscali's policy.

As said, just find out the SMTP server details of your new ISP.

If you want to ensure that you have an eMail address / Server that you can use regardless of which ISP you are with, just click the banner in the top right and sign up for a VDS, unlimited eMail accounts and own SMTP server, wont ever need to change based on supplier again.

it appears that they (dnsmaster.net) "do not relay messages ". Is that the end of this experiment or can i try something else ?
