Using a digital meter (will re-check with a analogue when when it arrives) I'm suspecting the TPS to have a dead spot mid way. Where is a the best place to get a well priced quality replacement, the prices I'm seeing range form a fortune to a big fortune(!)

p.s its the later oval type I think, on a '96 500.

After struggling with an intermittent issue I used Rover Gauge to de-bug my car and it very clearly showed up that the TPS was at fault. Can't remember where I bought the replacement TBH but it was one of the TVR specialists.

The supply is variable- but the TVR dealers charge a fortune for them- but try LandRover suppliers like Britpart, and google the Lucas part number printed into the back of the TPS- you should be able to find something around the £60 mark. Ive spent many hours trying to find a modern equivalent that will fit, and the nearest is the one of the MGB TF and discovery, but I cant get the voltage swing to be quite correct over the whole range- but this appear to be the part used by some of the aftermarket ECU setups, but I dont think it will work on the 14CUX.

"genuine LUCAS new stock"

After Lucas went bust didn't every "Tom Dick and Harry" buy up the rights to use the name? Hence dodgey rotor arms etc.

Unless of course they are new old stock scratchchin

ETA please tell me if I'm talking total nonsense smile

Thanks guys, these prices are much cheaper than what I found - I must have the description back to front, it's the other kind that I have with the square connector to the loom and the body is more oval.

The basic TPS body does not vary much apart from some having elongated mounting holes from the earlier 14cu ecu, the connector changes but you can swap that across with a bit of soldering. Pop is picture of your oval one?

Be very careful checking a potentiometer with an auto ranging meter, part of the way through the sweep of the wiper in the pot, the meter will change from one range to another, giving the impression of a faulty track. Better to test it on a manual range.
