Has anyone had any issues with the 6 speed box with ATB Diff? Thinking about the upgrade and want to be sure that it is a very robust solution before I go for it.

I'm sure the sale of good act means I can reasonably expect a gearbox to last more than 21 months if it were correctly specified in the first place....

Firstly, you have my utmost sympathy. Having said that...
Yours has lasted a lot longer than some others, Nathan, and they have had to pay. I agree that it should last longer, even if you have tracked it a lot, but I doubt that you'd win a legal battle.
As to the 6 speed, as Paul says, make sure you get the modded one. Ask Rob (AMGMerc) what he thought of mine, I let him try it the day I collected it.

Martin.

All you post is true, however interpretation of "reasonable" "durability" etc. would be down to a court of law I'm afraid.

As Noble clearly exclude failure after 12 months in their warranty, you'd have to prove that there was something wrong with the manufacturing of the component, as by implication Noble have stated that they expect things to last at least 12 months, but don't specify anything else.

A court would look at past history of the car, it's use (unfortunatly 'track use', however little, would probably not be viewed as 'reasonable use' IMHO by a court and so would weaken your case).

However none of this would stop any manufacturer making a goodwill geasture if it actually did fail, nor would it stop you coming to an arrangement.

However, I have normally found that such agreements are normally predicated by the two parties talking directly, not via a third medium (if you catch my drift).

I can't of course tell you what would happen if you did want to take it to court under the SoGA as I'm not qualified to do so, but I would strongly recommend taking professional advice if you wanted to persue that.

Finally, remember also that the SoGA case law also includes provisions for the supplier/dealer to recover betterment and incidental expenses, and as such, even if a claim were successful under the act, you would be highly unlikely to get the full replacement cost after this time.

Sorry to be a bearer of a differing version but the SoGA is good, but perhaps not that good as you quoted... (I've used it a few times myself, and the above is based on what has actually happened).

One more thing, Nathan.

We (the Nobility) need an enterprising and brave (that'll be you) person to step into Andy G's shoes. We thought, therefore, that you might be the first to buy a G-trag sequential 'box and report back.

Martin.

Would something like this do the trick Nathan?

Specification
6 Speed sequential gear selection.
1st Layshaft gear is integral, 2nd to 6th are slide on.
Gear teeth are 12.5 mm wide straight cut on 90 mm centres.
A standard list of 26 ratios are specified for BTCC with a fixed 13:49 final drive ratio.
Gear ground and super polished ratios (Xtrem Process) are available if required.
Gearbox casing material is Aluminium and all casting joint faces have 'O'-Ring seals.
Differential is an Xtrac cassette type Plate unit with a choice of ramp angles, plate settings and preload settings.
Clutch shaft to suit customer installation is included.

Xtrac Transverse FWD Touring/Rally Car Gearbox - lovely bit of kit but it'd make a 6sp conversion look a bargain, especialy if you specced up the full AGS package

Poor old Andy lol, every upgrade in the book /pats keys.

Nathan, you probably don't need a new box, could likely get the current one refurbed by gearboxman etc? I'm not sure I'd bother going 6 speed given the costs...
