Whilst doing my rack swap i'm also swapping the PAS to a new unit, The PAS is a britpart power steering pump,

The only differences I've found is that the mounting holes have to be drilled out to clearance holes as they are threaded, and the drive coupling is slightly different having a thicker part to the flange.

Does any one know how the coupling comes off?

Can't help you with that Peter, sorry. But I do have a question to add: do you have a source for the sleeves that go on the three pins, as I have managed to loose mine. You can see two of them making a bid for freedom here

I think I've managed to find out that it's pressed on from a vw forum post I found

Paul I didn't realise that it had them until seeing your post. I'll have to check to make sure I've not lost any before putting the pump back in.

Oops, I can comfirm that it is pressed on, was able to remove it using a three legged puller. unfortunately it broke the new one, but didn't need that one any way.

But luckily enough its the one i didn't want

It most definitely should have them, as I have just rebuilt my pump and it had the three collars on it. But they are only plastic, so perhaps you can manufacture them from something, a piece of hard plastic hose perhaps?

Yes just going to correct myself yes it does have them. You can't see them from one side wasn't until I put my endoscope in when trying to line up the pump that I saw them

After 500 attempts to line the pump up success. I can see why they say it's an engine out job.

Sorry to hear it's been a trial. But I can attest that it's really not too bad doing an R&R on the pump. I reckon I can do it in under an hour with time to spare (I've had practice but I am pretty slow).

My experience comes from replacing the Woodruff Key, which isn't so easy when you don't know the size, and the old one has sheered due to kitty litter getting in to the mechanism. I swore I'd fashion some sort of shield, but of course nothing has come of that.
