DBS now or wait to see the DB11...?
Discussion
Hi all
I can see some tempting DBS's for sale (particularly a MY12 carbon edition model) and this is a car I have always lusted after.
However, with the DB11 coming out I am wondering whether I should wait for a while and compare the two. Any thoughts?
Also, any thoughts on the seeming rock solid values of the DBS when the 11 is launched?
Cheers

Cannot see the new DB11 having an adverse impact on DBS prices because there will be a stream of Aston enthusiasts wanting to have the last V12 na engine. DBS prices are already firm because it is already viewed as a very desirable Aston. Same goes for the V12V.
How will the DB11 prices fair - we will have a better idea after we see how it is received when launched at Geneva. How are they going to keep the factory busy?
Good to see in todays announcement that it looks like production of Aston sports cars will be limited to 7,000 a year. Once the DB11, new Vantage, new flagship are on stream that should see an end to discounting and better residual values. If it can be achieved it may see owners changing their cars more often and boost sales further.

Thanks all.
Pretty much sums up my thoughts. Anyone think the carbon edition is worth paying the premium for?
Cheers
I hung out for the latest registered car I could get (Sept28th 2012) which happened to be a CB too. Had a CB V12V before so the DBS was everything I wanted.Pretty much sums up my thoughts. Anyone think the carbon edition is worth paying the premium for?
Cheers
This is the one that caught my attention http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/a...
It is a lovely looking model but is the premium worth it over, for example, this: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/a...
That is before you even consider the £80k entry level for older cars.
I would say buy the car you like the best (ext/int color combo) regardless of year. The only dividing line IMO is Alpine vs B&O; any other differences are too minor to worry about. Buying an earlier car will put you farther down the depreciation curve, to your ultimate benefit. So, I see buying priority as:
1) Color (in and out)
2) Trans
3) Mileage
4) Audio

Mileage is key. Being the same, I'd say save £15k and get the second one. This is the one that caught my attention http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/a...

The first DB11s will be (from memory) c. £167/168k, as they will have 'launch edition spec', which basically means lots of normally at cost extras. Then the price will drop in line with the standard spec. The launch cars will not have a manual option. It is still unknown whether DB11 will have a manual option post-launch car sales and if so, whether that will be for the TT V12 or the AMG V8 which will follow in a year or twoI can see some tempting DBS's for sale (particularly a MY12 carbon edition model) and this is a car I have always lusted after.

One assumes there is a possibility that a manual DB11 might have an impact on manual DBS values, although of course DB11 won't have a n/a engine and is much newer than any manual DBS, so I don't really see it. As for autos, I don't see DB11 autos having much impact on DBS autos as there is again simply too much of a price and age gap, particularly for the launch spec DB11s
Incidentally, DB11 will be the first Aston to have a Ferrari style (transferable) built in service plan - IIRC 5 years servicing included on DB11 (Ferrari is 7 yrs if memory serves me correctly)
Having said all that, as others have said, it isn't exactly long until DB11 is 'fully public' so I'd wait for now to see what you think of it
On top of all that, DB11 may not be the only 'new' Aston launched at Geneva :-)

That's about twice the current production. How will that discourage discounting or affect residuals? As with all low production high end cars, the new models will be sold out for the first couple of years. But once the price is no object crowd is sated discounts will come back. Residuals hard to say, but I believe they will be on par with with past models, no reason for them to hold their value any more or any less. That said I hope thier new models are a huge success and they sell a ton of them to secure Astons independent future, nothing I'd hate to see worse than to see them absorbed by Mercedes. That would be a horrible fate.V8 Vantage GT said:

So the key as ever is models being significantly refreshed/replaced more regularly

That would be a horrible fate.I was a bit baffled by the decision to start production in Wales late this summer. Not so much regarding the location, as they probably have done their homework and compared suitable places but more about the timing. Britain is facing a monumental decision regarding Brexit and not to wait until June after the election when the outcome is clear makes very little strategic sense to me. The world can wait another 4 months for the DBX as it is not exactly a new idea.
