Morning all,

Slightly concerned. I may have been going slightly too fast on the M27 this morning and I was just wondering how you can determine whether or not a gantry has a speed camera installed?

There were no white lines on the road, and I can't see any camera as such on google maps. I have attached front and back pictures of the gantry in question.

Any easy way to tell whether a camera is in there?

Thank you smile

You can't usually tell unless you look in your mirror as you pass and spot a camera.

There are no cameras in your photo. Additionally there are no gantry cameras on the M27. Unmarked cars do park up though on the 'Police only' ramps with laser guns. Especially on the M27. Some of these guns now have video recording enabled so they don't need to stop you there and then, can just send an NIP in the post.

HantsRat - thank you. Much appreciated. I didn't know the M27 had no gantry cameras, but it's reassuring!

There are no gantry cameras in Hampshire. I think the nearest ones to us are the M25.

On the M25, Waze seems to know which of the marked up gantry's actually have cameras on them. No idea if it's correct though.

Not much use as you can never go fast enough on the bloody road to warrant having to slow down anyway!!

What a great use of highly trained and expensive police officers and equipment. Zapping people exceeding the speed limit on a motorway

Part of the job of a traffic officer is to enforce to speed limits. This includes motorways. Surely you know that?

safest roads in the country, and probably the world actually.
What a waste of time and money especially when we hear how stretched you are for resources and the cuts that have to be made as a result

I've never been 'done' by a speed gun toting Trafpol on a motorway, and have been past them at 85 ish. I'd rather have a human behind one that can have a bit of discretion. I should imagine they do catch a fair amount of dicks taking the piss though.

I was on the way to Southampton a few weeks ago in torrential rain doing a middle lane 75 and some knob came past me at well over the ton with a phone to his ear....prime candidate for the gun, so I don't personally have a problem with the bib plotting up.

If you get caught, you're taking the piss or haven't got your eyes open , no ?

Might be the safest roads in the country but they still have speed limits and other laws applied to them. Believe it or not, the job of the police is to enforce those. The same as most other countries in the world.
