B6 Passat 1.9TDI Rough Start When Hot
Discussion
My 1.9TDI PD (BXE engine) starts perfectly fine when cold. Couple of turns and it fires, no problem.
Recently I've noticed that when the engine is warm (90C coolant temp), if the engine is switched off and restarted while warm, it makes a dreadful rattling/crunching noise when it fires. It never fails to start, and still fires after a turn or 2 as usual. It almost sounds like the injectors are fully open for a split second when it fires, as if it thinks the engine is cold.
I've read about known problems with engines not starting easily when hot, pointing to coolant temp sensor, but this seems a bit different.
The DMF/clutch was renewed 5 months ago, timing belt was done in November 2014. Not checked it for fault codes yet.
Anyone had this symptom before?
Cheers.
