Thoughts on the 570GT???
Discussion
What an interesting development !
A posh looking McLaren. Something to compete with Aston Martin and Bentley , and offer something for Jaguar owners to aspire to.
The 570S in its launch trim is a bit too "Lotus Exige" in appearance for some. There are markets where people really do want the deep smelly leather and the super stereo system. The GT appears to really tick the boxes.
I can see this being a big success. it will take McLaren into a new customer segment who may otherwise regard the 570S and 650S as being a bit too extreme.
Am I just getting old or am I right in really liking this car?

I think its a great looking car, but I dont really agree with some of your other points. It looks great because the 570S looks great. Its rightly named a 570GT, as its very much still a 570. You have now the choice of coupe, GT or spyder. Its not a new segment and can't see why you would compare it to an Aston or Bentley (for a start it has no rear seats).A posh looking McLaren. Is interesting. Not sure of the relevant value as they've stripped out over £10k of useful kit (ceramics & exhaust among the biggest) but bumped the price up £10k over the 570S so overall a £20k gain. That's a very expensive sunroof, extra storage & higher quality leather. I think the HiFi upgrade is only £2k on the 570S so it can't be that.
Does look good though & as said will attract Aston/F-Type buyers i'd imagine.

I thought the whole point of having 2 models in the baby range was a 570 S for sport and the 540 C I assume for comfort, whats the point of the GT or are we now dropping the 540 model ?
GT is what it states to be - a long range tourer. Quieter, more comfort and less noise than the 540C and 570S.garyhun said:

But what suspension does it have? The 540C has less sporty suspension than the 570S, which does this have? It seems to be simply more space and more leather, however having said that it's good to have that choice. Nice looking as well.

No idea about suspension. It is interesting that no tests of the 540C have been done yet (or at least published).I still am waiting to see a 540C roadtest and how it compares with the 570S, does the 540C actually exist?

so to my original point, where does this leave a 540 ? is there any point in that model unless its for company car tax nonsense ?
china maybe ?
The 540C was created specifically for the Asia market and then rolled out to other countries. The USA only get the 570, no 540 available although 540 is available in Canada!!!china maybe ?
The reason I was going 540 was to spec up and keep to around the base price of the 570. However, there has been little press coverage around the 540 so who knows what's happening. When I was at the MTC in October I was still being told April delivery for me and I was number 2 on the list so maybe we'll see something in the next month or so. Who knows?

Fella on here (cant remember who) only last week being quoted April for a 570, I really hope not but cant see this ending well.
Might have been me as i asked McL Manchester that very question last week, however it wasn't April delivery but was sub 5 months from order to delivery so ordering last week i could expect my car around the end of June/early July.garyhun said:

Good luck with that Gary, keep us posted. It's definitely the way I would go.
In the meantime, an Audi V10 v 570S comparison from Werner Budding at Autovisie. You might need the subtitles. I liker Werner, he is more like me and you than the driving Gods of this world. Golly, they had some wet weather from the test. That German Huracan is certainly fast. Great if you like accerlation rather than B roads.

t. The hatchback is a joke, good luck leaning over the dirty haunches and scratching the sides with your bags. I wonder how many rear screens will be smashed either closing on bags or bags firing backwards into it. Softer ride, less noisy tyres and plusher leather? For £10k more? No. I can see they are trying to make this a 'one car' car, but really, that doesn't work.

I had a 996 targa for a while back in the day. It had the same set glass hatch set up, affording easier access to a load area. Worked fine.

Don't forget the £10-15k of 570S kit the GT loses so the gap between the cars is closer to £25k & that i really don't get. However it does look good & i can imagine may create some interest with Aston buyers & the like.
