Hi Guys
I haven't posted on the 'watches' section before but I've been wanting to treat myself to a Rolex for years but couldn't bring myself round to spending which is, even for the cheapest Rolex, quite a lot of money! Well, I went and done it as they say yesterday!
Before actually trying one on I had set my heart on a DateJust but I really didn't like the 'bubble' over the date so I decided on a OP 36 with a steel face which I think looks really smart.
The shop said that the steel faced watch was rare and I would have to leave my details and they would contact me when one came in but there was a list of other waiting buyers and couldn't say when that would be! Then another salesperson suddenly remembered there was one in the window on display! Very strange!
Anyway I'm very pleased.

I really wanted a simple but elegant looking watch and this OP fitted the bill. It was the first I had seen with the steel face which I really like. I don't want to take it off but really must remember to when working on the car!
I wouldn't bother. Over the years I've done countless hours of that sort of thing wearing my Datejust and the odd knock it has picked up just adds to the working charm of it.I really wanted a simple but elegant looking watch and this OP fitted the bill. Admittedly it's nice to keep it brand new for a while

Don't bother. These are rugged watches which are all the better if you USE them.I really wanted a simple but elegant looking watch and this OP fitted the bill. I bought my Submariner Ceramic five years ago and aside from taking it off to give it a scrub in the shower it was not been off my wrist, inclduing DIY, working on cars, shooting, rugby, drinking heavily.
It has some marks but each one tells a story.
Just wear it to death.
PS lovely looking thing.
I take my Sub off if I'm shoving my arms down into the deepest depths of the engine bay, where it could get heavily damaged, but otherwise, it never leaves my wrist. After a year of wearing, the only marks are light scratches to the clasp where it touches the desk when I'm typing
I realise I'm reducing its resale value, but in all honesty, the only way to maximise the resale is to leave it in the box, with all the protective stickers. I'd prefer to enjoy it on my wrist, rather than look at it occasionally in the box. If I wanted to buy a chunk of metal with the possibility of making a few quid, I'd buy a lump of gold

Mine has a chunk out of it where my three year old was wearing it and clouted it on a door handle on Xmas morning with excitement running to get his presents.I realise I'm reducing its resale value, but in all honesty, the only way to maximise the resale is to leave it in the box, with all the protective stickers. When I am old and gray and he's living his own life as a man I shall sip my whisky and look at the mark and smile.
And when I breathe my last breath he will take it off my cold wrist and wear it sometimes.
Nice.
I know what you are all saying about wearing it all the time but I just haven't got the heart to scratch it as it's my first Rolex or other expensive watch. I've always looked after everything I've bought.
I would never work on a car wearing a watch with a metal strap. It's very easy to get a very nasty burn if you accidentally short out the strap! Just the same as not wearing a ring. I know of someone who caught their ring as they jumped down from a vehicle and ripped their finger off!

Yeah I would tend to agree with not wearing it when in the garden or garage working. However my watch has scrapes and scratches everywhere just from sitting in front of a keyboard.
Although when something is new its nice to keep it right I'm always happy when that feeling passes and I can get on with just using it and not being worried about damaging it.
