Trying to help a friend whose engine went bang.

Is it still possible to source engine parts such as block, pistons and liners for the ajp engines?
If so - who are the people to speak to?

Many thanks in advance
Jimmy

I imagine that the Block and Heads are only available from breakers, but everything else should be readily available

Indeed he is right, a set of 4.5 pistons will set you back around £1100 from power, who are the only people who still manufacture them. Blocks are very rare indeed and you will ONLY find them at breakers as are a set of heads. Expect a head to cost upwards of £750 each and liners will be around £75 ea plus machining.

All in all, quite expensive.

Thought readman racing was a preferred contact, supporting the TVR Challenge race series

I wish to thank all of you for your help.
My mate gets the block welded (yes it is repairable) but that will rip another big hole in his pocket.
He has already a new crankshaft. But there seem to be two different diameters of the bearings?
The new one is the bigger one(4.5 inch if I recall correctly) if it does not match the motor specialist will drill the bearing to the bigger diameter for another load of cash.
I hear his wife is massively underwhelmed with the car and considers leaving him.
That would sort at least one problem...

The early 4.2 litre engines had cranks with a 2.3 inch main bearing journal diameter (iirc). This was revised to 2.5 in 1998 to stop them failing. All 4.5 cranks have a 2.5 inch mains.

Does anybody happen to know the engine number at which this mod was introduced?

Somewhat later, perhaps 1999, the Aux Drive Shaft was uprated to combat Oil/Water/PS pump drive failures. A very worthwhile reliability improvement that sadly my car missed being a '98. Hopefully rarely starting the engine at low temps when the oils are thickest helps to reduce the chance of failure.

Glad the block is weldable, is he OK for rods and pistons?
