This was more post to see if anyone had experienced the same thing as I will be raising it with the Council later today.

So the background is that I park in a multistorey car park to get the train to work, it costs £4.20 until 18.00 and is free there after.

The other day I came back to my car to find a parking fine slapped on the windscreen which I was somewhat annoyed about as I was totally sure I'd put my £4.20 into the machine. Low and behold my ticket said I'd only paid until 10.00! Can't argue that, perhaps the machine spat a couple of coins out that I didn't notice although I was sure I'd checked the machine before hitting the green button. Either way I paid up and moved on....

Until this morning, whereby I used the same machine put my £4.20 in and before pressing the green button I double checked. Yep, 18.00 and definitely £4.20, printed the ticket.

By pure luck I glanced at the ticket whilst sticking it on the screen and the ****ing thing shows 10.00!! If I hadn't checked there'd be another fine on my windscreen, let alone the fact that I had to pay another £4.20 for the day.

So oddly I've used the machine in question several times since so it's clearly an intermittent issue.

Anyone else had similar? Been successful having a parking ticket revoked? Unfortunately you only end up stitched once the ticket has come out as the machine indicates that you've paid up accordingly.

Isn't there usually a number on the machine you can call in case of malfunction?
Would likely help your case if you rang at the time.

Not that I've ever noticed but will double check.

Trouble is the time at this point is usually 10 minutes before the train leaves at 7am so not something many people will have time to do.

Will definitely have a look though.

Appeal the ticket but expect the council to reject the appeal as they nearly always do. Then you appeal to the tribunal where you have a good chance of winning, obviously make sure you keep and present the evidence. I have just been through a similar process and WON.

There may be information about who to contact but you can google that - council, parking company or whoever.
You will need the ticket machine number so you can reference it in your complaint e.g.
Machine 1234 at XYZ station car park.

Take a photo of the screen on the ticket machine before it prints the ticket??

Does the ticket have £4.20 printed on it and possibly the time you purchased the ticket?

I know the ticket machine I use regularly does this.

There should be an audit trail of tickets issued and money inserted. if not I'd suggest that the system is not fit for purpose and could be open to fraud by the individual collecting the money if they are aware of the non existance of an audit trail.

therefore and some will think I'm talking rubbish but if they are unable to demonstrate the above they can not prove you have "underpaid".

Submit that to a Council employee and I'm sure they will fold!

That's what I would do.

Bit of a faff, but very useful evidence.

the number of parking fines withdraw by adelaide city council because of faulty ticket machines and parking inspector errors is rising , latest figures show.
this has prompted a warning from the raa for drivers to examine any parking tickets-which range from $49 to $349 -to check if they are legitimate.

parking inspectors may not be aware there is a fault in a machine in the areas they are patrolling.

in the case where a vehicle does not have a valid parking ticket displayed, an expiation would be given.

if a person attempts to validate their ticket, and there is evidence of faulty equipment or the like, i would normally suggest they should be entitled to continue their journey.

This. What amount £ is printed on the ticket?

It could be something stupid like the Car Park is free until 7 and so tickets bought up to then only allow parking until 10:00.

Annoyingly I binned the previous ticket I'd purchased as I only realised today that the amount paid is printed as well as the time.

I've got a photo and the original ticket I purchased this morning which clearly shows 10.00 but £4.20 paid. Regardless of the time I paid for the ticket (as I have been there over an hour earlier) £4.20 pays up until 18.00 so the time can't be debated either.

I would assume the Council keep a record of fines issued so should still have photographic evidence of the ticket in my windscreen which will show £4.20 paid as well.

Can you access your 'transgression' photo online? Then download a copy before the council 'loses' it.

thumbup you seem to be in the clear now, I wonder what are the chances of getting the fine returned and the extra £4.20 you've paid?.

I could but when trying to access it now I get the message, 'Case is Closed' I'd imagine because I paid the fine!
