Quick question, my wing mirror has 2 cracks in it, not shattered, just 2 lines running through it, still easy to see. Is this an mot fail?

  • The driver's side (offside) mirror is obligatory on a car.
  • There must also be at least one other mirror.
  • Both of the obligatory mirrors must be in good working order. It's up to the MOT tester's judgment to make that decision if the mirror is cracked.
I'd get down to Halfords and buy one of their stick-on replacement mirrors rather than take a risk.

Used a halfords one before when someone hit my wing mirror and smashed the lens, problem is just that its a heated wing mirror so would rather not lose that.

Get a proper replacement then, not one of the ste stick on things.

It isn't a fail though, I'm an MOT tester.

My rear view mirror and drivers door mirrors are absolutely fine.
My passenger side mirror has 3 cracks in it BUT the image is not distorted at all. (like you get multiple images in a large cracked mirror)

But my last MOT the tester issued a 'Repair as soon as possible (minor defects)'.
The previous 3 MOT tests at the same test centre, passed absolutely fine with the mirror in the same condition.

Was the tester right to issue a minor defect?
