Any tips on fitting Air Induction Hose

Bought air induction hose from filter to Air flow Meter today, Any tips on fitting it before I attempt it tommorow ?

Thinking of putting some WD or grease on joining tube
Any body done this job and any words of wisdom appreciated

If you are talking about the smooth bore pipes , dip the ends in very hot water first as this will soften them and make it much easier to fit, even if you didn't by direct from us feel free to phone if you want more advise.

Hi,
just ordered some induction hoses from Tim so wondered how you got on with fitting them.
Did the hot water do the trick? Did you need to trim down the length that was supplied?

how hard is it to get the pipe to the air filter on Tim ??? I'm interested in the new induction kit

Well i don't normally fit them so not the best person to ask,(although i have fitted a few to griffs) I made all the tooling using a bare chimaera body shell, so didn't really suffer any difficulties reaching the filter.
I did ask Paul at Austec how they were fitting and they didn't have any issues/ problems, i guess you just need to raise the car enough to reach up from underneath, i really can't imagine that it would be a problem .

Excuse me for being a complete non-techie (and new Chimaera owner) but what does an air induction hose & Air flow Meter do? Sounds like I might be missing out!!

The hose runs from your Air Filter in front of the Radiator, along above the Passenger wing to the AirFlow Meter. Its a big ribbed bit of flexi pipe (oo err). This connects to the Air Flow meter(a metal box with Land Rover written on it) that, very basically speaking, measures the amount of air entering the engine and ensures enough fuel is getting to the injectors to make the right air/fuel mix.

You have these parts already, you're not missing out. However a "smooth" Induction hose (ie shiny on the inside) can "help" the airflow down it to the Airflow meter.

Are you talking actual power gains or cosmetically speaking..?

We did a back to back test at Austecs rolling road, on a Griffith 500, the increase was 6-7bhp at the wheels, nothing else was changed or adjusted, it will depend on engine size / state of tune , so i would say a few bhp for a 4.0L up to 10 for a monnster engine, Torque gains were slightly more, but i haven't got the confirmed figures.
I would suggest that the increase in airflow isn't enough to need a tuning session , but as always any modification will benefit more if you do.

Not really as its so far from the engine, in the past K&N have always been associated with improved induction noise, this will only occur when the filters are attached or close to the engine.

Surely a "better/different" approach would be to affix the filter right next to the airflow meter, and then come up with a way of ducting a decent flow of cold air from the front of the car to the filter..????

Not as effective as long smooth pipe feeding the meter, due to the dynamics of the plenum system we have found that the longer pipes work better than a filter near the meter which would disturb the linear airflow.
