Thinking about upgrading, looking for something that's great with movies but excellent with music. Looking at this:

But also interested by this:

Is it worth investing this much in an AV amp?

Currently have one of these: http://www.whathifi.com/sony/str-dn1050/review which is decent but sometimes lacks the sparkle of a decent 2 channel stereo amp.

Anthem or Yamaha Aventage for best musical performance.

Anthem have superb room correction software.

I presume you are aware, but incase you're not the Anthem 510 is discontinued. Doesn't make it a bad amp, but might help you get a good deal knowing this. The 520/720/1120 are the new (Atmos) models though I think they use the same version of ARC room eq which is one of the big selling points of Anthem too.

You might also pick up the old model Arcam AVR750 (the newer 550/850 are now out) and by the '750 they had got rid of the bugs of the older models such as the AVR600/500. Arcam's room eq is pretty poor, but they have a good reputation for music.

You really need to listen to them I'm afraid.

TBH, you may well find that a cheaper dedicated AVR and simple 2-channel works out considerably cheaper than trying to find an AVR that excels at both. But there is the added complexity of connecting all your sources and speakers.

So it looks like the Anthem all the way. Not really interested in different amps for different purposes as I use Kodi for pretty much all my media. Would the Pioneer be worth a look?

I upgraded from an Arcam to an Anthem MRX 510 and it really is very good for music. The room correction is also excellent.

Be aware that the 720 is the new version of the 510 and not the 520, which replaces the 310. The x20 models are significantly more expensive than their x10 counterparts and many Anthem enthusiasts are rather annoyed at their recent pricing.

Thanks. What's the major (real world) difference between the x10 vs x20 range? Quality is more important to me than bells and whistles. Just needs to play 5.1 moves and be good for stereo music.

Do you have experience of these? The pricing looks pretty good, thinking about the RX-A2050.

It's a lot of money though to end up with the wrong receiver.
