The Dorset police visited neighbouring Devon & Cornwall to carry out a joint operation against motorists. Part of this involved 20 police vehicles with blue lights on, driving down both lanes of a dual carriageway.

surely this is a misuse of the blue lights, and also obstructing the highway?

And what does the legislation say about how you must use your blue lights to make such a use a misuse?

What was the obstruction?

Looks pretty stupid to me. Apart from the first two they're all tailgating and one of them has a headlight out.

Good to see the robbery, burglary and murder offenses have all been cleared up.

5 drug driving, 12 x no insurance via ANPR, one anti-social riding, 12 FPNs, 3 x dangerous conditions, 10 mobile phone use.

If any response inspector was given 20 x vehicles for a day, plus support officers, and that was the return they'd feel they'd failed. Four for possession of cannabis - I'd have told them to ignore such offences and get on and do some real work.

Two foot PCs could get 10 mobile phone uses in an hour in the high street.

Can't see the point. It's a publicity stunt, as stated, but a damned expensive one.

i rather think it's unlikely that they drove from Dorset en-convoy, just met up to make a nice picture.

All of the above - pretty slim pickings for all that effort

Any bets this one's either possession or dangerous condition?

Did they ever pass that law about cruises in that they couldn't drive in a procession or similar as surely that's what they are doing.

At least everyone knew they weren't in Devon that day, hope there was some serious fun had by all petrolheads. Had I have known, I'd have gone down for a spin

5 x drug drivers. That's five trips to custody, booking in and waiting for doctor to take blood, then file prep, so that's five units down.

12 x no insurance. That's an average of an hour per seizure waiting for recovery and doing paperwork. That's 12hrs down.

3 x dangerous condition. 3x prohibition and the return to re-examine as and when faults rectified

It doesn't take long to run out of units.

4 x possession of cannabis. Ignore the offence of drug possession Derek? And what do Officers do with the drugs? This isn't the 1970s.

If you don't consider removing drug drivers from the road or dealing with drug possession 'real work' , what exactly would you call it?

Isn't cannabis a roadside warning and telling off, and a letter home to mummy and daddy these days? It certainly is on road wars, get Chris on the case, he and his bud would get 12 pulls an hour and stil have time for a giggle at an overloaded gypsy Lorry!

First timers should get a formal warning for Cannabis possession -a ten minute job. Likewise for second possession- a fixed penalty. So quick and easy to deal with now.

That's so Moneysupermarket.

Still, seems to be a pretty effective way of alienating the public. thumbup
