996 battery replacement
Discussion
After second discharge of battery within a week, decided that not worth charging again so new battery it is. The battery I've lined up is a Bosch S5007 74ah 750 cold crank. Any thoughts appreciated before I buy in the next couple of days, (1999, 996 C4 manual , not a daily driver if that has any relevance as to choice). Priced above battery at JCB (JustCarBatteries) at £78 which seems a good price- eurocarparts want £103. Cheers.
Is there really any advantage having a massive amp hour and super huge cold cranking battery over one that is sufficient or is it just a feel good thing about POWER !!!!!! (in a 'Clarkson' way) ? Don't mind paying the extra but only if it is justified. Once the engine's running does the increased battery power play any part in increasing performance ?? Thanks for the replies
Still waiting for eurocarparts to get back to me on price matching JCB as I can pick it up locally rather than having it delivered even though it's free shipping.

I plumped for this for my 996 in September: https://www.tayna.co.uk/096-Powerline-Car-Battery-...
£42 including next business day delivery if ordered before 4pm.
My 996 is kept outside and has burst into life every day this winter just fine
My advise is that if you are going to buy an expensive battery with a long warranty, buy it locally so you have a fighting chance of getting it replaced....

No. Your car requires a certain amount of juice to crank it over, if you have more it won't do any harm apart from the extra weight.Still waiting for eurocarparts to get back to me on price matching JCB as I can pick it up locally rather than having it delivered even though it's free shipping.

Might help if you repeatedly start and stop the car without driving anywhere, or have a habit of leaving the radio on or headlights on.

What's the short code for that one please? (like S4008)
Think the Short code is S5010 Bosche silver 110, 85ah. £87 at JCB delivered free. Just had a look on eurocarparts website and it's £112, unless it's cheaper from a store ??
Can anyone explain the benefits to be gained by having a more powerful battery, other than being able to power more electric's such as a sub ,amp maybe a fridge etc is there any motoring performance gain etc, thanks
Think that was answered while I was typing- I'm not the quickest on the keyboard

Yes , thats sounds like good advice to me, wouldn't like to try out warrantee conditions 4 years later and having to post at my expense back to where it came from £42 including next business day delivery if ordered before 4pm.

I'd hope so, being that it's only a few months old.£42 including next business day delivery if ordered before 4pm.

Might be a different story this winter...

I think the idea is that there will be days that the battery is not working 100% as well as it should. Cold weather, left the interior lights on, etc.. If your battery is above the spec you need it can lose some performance and still start the car; if you're using a battery closer to the original spec you have less leeway. That's my understanding at least.
