A new twist
http://www.nickfreemansolicitors.co.uk/mp-car-park...

An MP’s letter to a constituent has opened the door to the likelihood of every driver in the country being able to legally flout parking restrictions, the country’s top traffic lawyer has said.

Nick Freeman, aka Mr Loophole, said all that drivers had to do when parking in council-owned car parks - or on public roads where parking restrictions were in place - was to put a clearly-displayed sign in the car window to state that they were there illegally and were not entering into any contract!

I remember reading years ago, probably in the late 90s, that Jay Kay from Jamiroquai was covering his number plates when parking in central london, so the wardens couldn't ticket him. Was probably media bks. What would happen if you covered your plates before parking in a camera controlled car park?

Interesting , perhaps someone could remind us when the display of VED discs ceased to be a requirement ...

Not quite.

Sajid Javid MP pointed out to a constituent that an illegal encampment on a car park wasn't being treated as a parking ticket, but as squatting.
Nick Freeman is suggesting everybody could volunteer to be treated as a squatter instead. Whether it'd stand up in court is another matter.

I'm also not sure that it's preferable...

It would be interesting to see him put his money where his mouth is and offer to run this defence pro bono for someone who is prepared to try it out in court.

I think we know what the chances of that are.....

from GOV site :

From 1 October 2014, the paper tax disc will no longer need to be displayed on a vehicle. If you have a tax disc with any months left to run after this date, then it can be removed from the vehicle and destroyed. This includes customers with a Northern Ireland address, however they will still need to display their MoT disc.

Exactly, even to a layman you can see they were occupying the land for the purpose of residence. Dave parking his GTi on double yellows outside Tesco while nipping in for his fags is a completely different scenario.
