Non AGM battery, could this cause an issue On a "modern" BMW
Discussion
Hi all
I have a F11 520D
Could fitting a conventional wet type lead acid battery cause any issue?
I know the car is designed to have an AGM, but I have bought and fitted a non AGM already...
I would not mind reduced battery life (bearing in mind I don't use start/ stop anyway). I just would not want it to cause any other issue (ECU faults etc...)
Battery has been registered with the ECU at my local garage.
Would welcome your thoughts on this
Many thanks

Charging system requirements are different for AGM batteries are different. A good calsium battery will deliver about 40,000 starts compared to an AGM,s 360,000 with optimised charging. If the charging system is set up for AGM you may not get the best of a regular battery out of it. I know you have had the battery programmed back to the smart charging but it may not deliver optimal charging for your current battery. If you start getting strange error codes and electrical issues it may be a good idea to fit the correct battery.
