Took some pics yesterday with my old 350d and today fully recharged the battery and switched it back on, only to see Err99 after ErrCF being displayed.

I can't seem to format the card in the camera and OSX Disk Utility can't erase the card.

I've cleaned the lens mount contacts, removed the main battery for a while, no change. Any further suggestions please?

I have to agree it's not looking too good. Was wondering if there was some kind of esoteric digital voodoo I could invoke to resurrect it...?

This sounds quite possible. Have you tried a different card ?

There are various recovery software programmes you can download, some free. Lexar used to include Lexar Image Recovery free on their cards; not sure if they still do. Get off what images you can, then buy a decent brand new card.

That's the only CF card I have (Transcend 133x 8GB for anyone interested), so can't try another in the camera, or try it in another camera.

I think if mac OS Disk Utility is telling me one of the blocks can't be over written and therefore 'cannot be erased' then maybe I have to accept it's demise.

Thanks Simpo but not too bothered about the content - I already have FileSalvage for recovery. I just want to find out if the card is gone or whether it was a recognised Canon issue with a workaround.

But yes, looking at replacement cards now.

Highly recommend this site for checking card speeds/compatibility

http://www.cameramemoryspeed.com/canon-7d-mark-ii/...

I have used them for my last 3 cards and doublechecked them and they have been right every time.

I misunderstood 'esoteric digital voodoo'.

Cards are cheap, just buy one smile

A 350d isnt going to care if you put a fast card in, buy a slow cheap one.

Don't go and buy a fake one though from the likes of eBay. For what they cost nowadays, either pick one up from PC World, or buy one supplied AND fulfilled by Amazon, it's just not worth it!

Ta, think that's probably what I did - will go for PC World or similar as you advise.

I use Mymemory or 7dayshop for these sort of bits. Never had a problem.
