I always knew I would end up fitting an LS.
I have taken the Rover to too many painful places but am happy with what I have achieved so far. Just one more race season on the new 5.0

I had a good chat with the living legend that is Mick 'Wacky' Wilkes and he is sourcing a 6.0 LQ4 engine and a TR6060 gearbox for me. Once imported I will let him put the 2 together with only the required modifications to run a cheap Holsett turbo scavenged from a British Lorry.

The aim is to build a low budget LS turbo that is reliable enough to drive on the road regularly but capable of producing enough power to run mid to low 9,s on the 1/4 mile.

Watch this space. I hope with Mick's help we can get the car ready and racing for next year.

Very interested to see how you get on. I have been toying with the idea of FI on my 450, but although the engine is in great condition with solid oil pressure/compression etc, it is quite miley and will definitely need a rebuild to keep the reliability up there.
The LS option seems to be a more sensible/future proof option in the long run, although purchasing a new crate engine seems to be a V-expensive route, so also looking at the second hand market for a decent used set-up, and rebuild that to spec and sell on the old drivetrain.

Deffo keep us posted and good luck smile

Hence the 'sloppy' approach. This will be on a modest budget.
As for stuff in my garage, there could be anything under the mess in there.

Just to be clear in case there is any confusion. Mick is importing used LS motors from scrapped cars in Texas. A used LS is very capable and big money is not necessary for big performance.

Yep, just what I was thinking.
Does Mick import the engines as a business? If so, could I be cheeky, and ask for his contact details as would like to have a chat with him too if poss?
Definitely the best route to go down.

Many thanks

Good choice Derek, you will have endless power then smile

Mick bought some stuff from me from my LS build, top guy, keep meaning to get over to his place and have a nose around.

You wont be disappointed with LS power still not had chance to drive mine hard yet but I have found 5th is the first gear I can spin the turbo up in (only 8lbs) and not violently spin the wheels evil

Looking at ms2 to ms3 upgrade now with traction control to help once the summer comes! then some MT's for our yearly drag meet smile
