4ltr rear brake advice pls
Discussion
You can do it without the tool, but it's fiddly, and as Steve says, you could damage the pistons. It involves gripping the exposed edge of the pistons, and truning them whilst applying pressure to the piston face to force it back. Might as well buy the tool for a tenner, as you'll only need it again.

NO NO NO you don't want to do that, not ever. The piston face has a shaped surface which enables you to turn and push it at the same time. As others have mentioned, there's a special tool which costs a few quid and makes this trivially easy. But you can do it using fine nosed pliers or any other tool capable of engaging on the piston.

And if you use the tool, it's a complete doddle to adjust, it will be the best £20 you will spend on tools.
