Does anyone have any experience with a remap for the GTI Mk7? I have just got one and think it could do with a little tweak.

It is a DSG Performance pack 2015.

What are the options?

TD1 code = warranty voided.

But yes, Revo or APR are well trusted with these engines.

Are all the remapped ones older than the warranty or do people just not care?

A bit of both.

Personally, I think a Stage 1 map is well within the limits of the car however be prepared for a frosty reception from your dealer in the unfortunate event that you need to use your warranty; regardless of whether it's for work on an engine/transmission part or not.

TD1 need not be an issue. do your homework before you pick a tuner, and no I am not saying tuning is undetectable, all tuning is. Its how its put back to stock before the dealer see it that's the key.

Have you got any personal experience with TD1?

My wife has a 2015 Audi S3 and the workshop guys in our local Audi dealership said just get it flashed back to standard if you need any warranty work doing. Yes the ECU will be read as being played with but the standard map will be on the car. The guy also said that for any servicing work leave the remap on as they don't have a problem with it.

As for a remap I'd go for APR. My MK6 Golf GTi is now APR Stage II+ and it has transformed the car.

Interesting, thanks a lot Andy. I will have a gentle ponder with the dealer I bought it from and see what their thinking is. 330bhp does sound interesting from the stage 1 remap.

Doesn't matter what the tech says once it's plugged in which is standard procedure the car will go td1, I've known cars flashed back to stock going td1 because the flash counter has gone up!

Once the car has gone td1 Audi/vw will not pay/reimburse the dealer for warranty work! So I can't see any dealer doing free work! This will affect engine warranty and drivetrain

So in effect it's nothing to do with the tech or the dealer

Indeed, this is the case with all car manufacturers. The choice is then simple. Accept that if something goes bang, you'll be on your own paying the bill. For some, this is an acceptable risk. If not, you either enjoy your car how it comes out of the box. Or. Buy a car with more power.

Exactly

Or tuning box but again not so simple if your car breaks down on the motorway and it's getting recovered, not easy to crawl on the floor of the hard shoulder undoing the undertray just to remove one of the plugs

I have a golf gti mk7 pp dsg and tbh I don't think it needs messing with its a beautiful car out the box

Flashing back to stock wont work unless you use the correct tool. Flash counter is an easy fix, its more complicated than that to stop TD1. Ask your tuner before you get it mapped. he will either know (because he can do it) or be totally clueless (because he cant)lol

I did the development work for REVO on my Cupra 280 and ran their Stage2 for a while, I'm now running APR Stage2 with DSG software as well.

Ppl also rave about the jb1 for these mk7 golfs

I can only speak with certainty about BMW, but I would be surprised if it's not the same with other manufacturers.
I have a good friend who works for BMW in Munich. He's a techy who writes the algorithms that let the little black boxes in our cars do their stuff. Performance, emissions, economy, error logs and so on.
He tells me that if your car (BMW) goes into a dealership, unless there is an error code recorded, the dealership wouldn't know you've gone 'none standard'.
However, if your car is in for a 'big' warranty claim (not sure how much big is), then as its BMW UK who pay the claim, they insist on the diagnostics being interogatedyby Germany. My friend tells me, no matter whatever any aftermarket manufacturer may tell you, they can detect any 'none standard' performance parameters, and report that back to BMW UK.

As I said above. Understand the risk of a big warranty claim being voided. If you're happy with that, go for it!

Its all good dealers telling you they will take it in with a remap but if anything goes wrong with the car under warranty it will be void.

MTM box's apparently are completely undetectable, but obviously the box needs removing before you take it in.

Also they are considerably more expensive than a Revo/APR remap.

Unless of course the car has been purchased as an approved used and the dealership haven't detected the car was part exchanged with any remap or modifications in place.
The dealer would then have to honour any warranty in place at the original time of sale as the buyer would have no idea he'd bought a modified car.
It would certainly make an interesting court case.

TD1 document I have got says a dealer can clear a TD1 code on system by firstly making sure the car is all OEM spec hardware and then flashing OEM software over the top. this is incase they take a car in on part ex with TD1 code stored for it.
