Boot pop issue
Discussion
Hi this is not the usual problem with boot release, car is V8 Vantage. I noticed that one of the sprung plungers which helps to pop the boot was a bit sticky. So I unscrewed it to investigate. At this point the spring inside was still attached. I removed the plunger from the spring to strip down and lube up! I noticed the top of the stop where the spring attaches looks a little damaged, or are they supposed to look like this?

My main problem now is that when I went to touch the spring to re-attach to the plunger, it reacted like a coiled... well like a coiled spring I suppose, but actually shot back inside the hole and dissapeared into the cavity.

There seems to be no easy way to recover this now, as there is no way to access inside this cavity in the boot lid. The carpet lined trim panel does not give access and the plastic panel appears to be bonded to the outside so no easy strip down. My only thought it to try and recover the spring using a magnet on a fishing line. But even if I do, what does it re-attach to inside the boot lid as it seemed to be curling around to the left inside the hole.
Am I doomed to having another rattle in the car and a bot lid that pops even less now??

I had a similar problem when I took the number plate plinth of and one of clips fell into the bumper, managed to remove with a borescope camera which has it has a magnet on the end. I already had this but you may be able to get it with a net curtain wire with a magnet attached.

I had the same problem doing the plinth on my V8VR, but I didn't spend £50. I unfolded a wire coat hanger and stuck a wad of blu tack on the end. Retrieved in a couple of minutes.Look at this on eBay:

I would not get the boroscope just for the spring I already had it, as with most of these tools once you have one you find it very useful from finding the leak on our shower to finding out some one had dropped a nut down the steering column on my prewar car stopping the stator tube saved me taking the steering column out.
