My cousin needed some advice that i could not offer.

Parents divorced 30 years ago.

One remarried and subsequently divorced.

Parents got back together and have cohabited for last 20 years but never remarried.

Father never contributed to purchase of property. Has paid living costs throughout but never a mortgage.

All assets are in sole names.

Should the non contributing partner outlive the one who bought the house, what happens if they become infirm and end up in a home?

The contributing partner's estate goes to cousin when they die.

The concern is that the house could be used to fund care for remaining non contributing parent where there is currently and has never been, any relationship there with said cousin. We don't believe the non contributor could prove entitlement to property but want to be sure.

I hope that makes sense.

So the non-contributing partner (can we find an easier way to identify 'em?) still won't have any assets. Nothing to pay with, no deprivation of assets issues.

Depends on the proprietor and their will.

Maybe "your cousin" should stop worrying about what inheritance he thinks he deserves? Father never paid the mortgage but did pay bills and you think this is a good enough reason to leave him without care when he needs it?

Not without care.

Just without the bill for care.

How strange. Phantom post. Not intentional. Why would I do that?

Reported.

Uncle paid bills? He contributed towards them. Certainly didn't pay anything for anyone else. No council tax, small percentage of energy costs - we are talking £300/pcm all in at most. The rest of his take home pay goes on his habits every month without fail.

He is simply helping his mother to understand what risks his father poses to her estate.

From what you've said, none.
