Battery recommendations for an 072

Took the Chimaera out of storage today for its MOT and the battery has had it. Battery maintainer says its good but tester says it has a dead cell. And even after charging or a run it wont even run the fuel pump.

Looking online for a quick turnaround and places like eurocarparts dont sell an 072 - So recommend me a place I can buy a decent 072 with a reasonable CCA (550+) and Ah (would like 70Ah) for reasonable money. My google skills seem to be failing me and I keep coming up with either :-

• You want an 072 , this (insert number) is exactly the same - only its taller/wider/deeper so wont fit the Chim box
• This (insert number) is exactly the same. Apart from the + and - terminals being the wrong way round
• We sell an 072, its £150 (!!!)
• We sell an 072 it will be fine with 350CCA and 50Ah (no it really wont)

Just want a decent normal battery that will fit the battery box !

ETA: Last resort just checked halfords, their own brand is £85 and has the right numbers but Im always a bit wary of own brand stuff - open to other suggestions

ETA2: Seems an 069 is the right size too, ECP do A Bosch one with the right numbers for £75 - still open to other ideas though !

By the way, I'm surprised ECP don't list type 072 batteries. I've bought quite a bit of stuff from them over the years for many makes of cars.

If I am correctly informed the earlier Chimaeras have a slight smaller battery box that is moulded in to the end of the footwell, with a removable front cover that is vertical at the end of the footwell. This type takes a smaller battery size than the later cars that had a removable battery box.

My car is an earlier type and I recently fitted one of these Exide 027 640CCA from ebay for £55, and it has been fine so far. It was the highest CCA rating I could find for the constraints of the physical size.

Hi, Effectivly a 072 and 069 are very similar.

An 072 is a DIN lid type battery ie: terminals recessed in either corner

Have attached Data sheets for both types to help you clarify what you need

I fitted a 075 from ECP in 2012 and it's still going strong. 60Ah, 520CCA.

Someone will be along shortly to arrest me for using the wrong battery I'm sure.....

I cut a slot in the edge of my battery box so that the positive cable routed to the +ve terminal of my 072 battery without bending so much.

I notice from above pdf files that the 069 is 20mm higher so that's what I'll get if needed next time. It will make cable connecting less tortuous.

Incidentally, that Yuasa website recommends the type 075 for my car, where the terminals are the other way round.

Delivered quickly and fits a treat, a bit smaller than the 079 I had before and better cranking power. The battery terminals aren't recessed so makes connecting the leads easier.

Very happy with it.

S4 is a bloody good battery the S5 is better still
