I have typically kept my cars for 3 or so years before moving onto the next one but recently I have been wondering, for various reasons, about the feasibility of regularly changing (let's say 6 monthly) between high end motors without taking an absolute spanking financially.

My reasoning is as follows:
1) there are tons of amazing cars out there, far too many to get through if you're in the typical 3-year cycle.
2) We are sort of at a watershed at the moment where we are saying goodbye to amazing naturally aspirated engines and there is only so long left to enjoy these cars before they move into the long in the tooth age range
3) ive never had a v10 or v12 and I'd like to have that experience.

So that's the reasoning, for right or wrong.

Examples of cars I'd like to own are: 997 Turbo or GT3, Gallardo, DB9 or DBS, 599, AMG GT, etc

I'm not expecting to come out of 5 or 6 changes anything like breaking even or up financially but does anyone have any experience of doing similar without taking an absolute pasting? I'd have thought striking up a decent arrangement with a trader could yield fruit as if they know they'll get a few deals out of you and you have them on the lookout for whatever you want next then there might be a sensible arrangement to come to. Would it be possible to keep the cost of depreciation and traders margin to £5k a time every 6 months? Does anyone have any experience of doing similar, taking out of the equation the massive gains a lot of cars in this ballpark have made in the last few years?

Sorry, I feel like that's all been a bit long winded but hopefully has got my question across.

NB - I appreciate if the whole market goes through the floor then the above goes out the window but even then values should all broadly move in sync?

I'd say your plan is wildly optimistic especially buying through dealers. If you go waving cash around in the private market place then maybe you'll pick up a better deal and yes sure striking up a relation ship with a dealer could bear fruit but I'd look at your losses being neare 15k on most cars rather than 5.
I'd love to be proven wrong as I'd change cars more frequently myself!
Good luck (and that's what you'd need) let us know how you get on!
