Way of getting car registration number?
Discussion
Hi guys, question, but first a small back story.
My other halfs grandfather died a few weeks ago, when he was ill, one of the granddaughters and her partner took him to stay with them. They are very shady characters (prostitution, violence, drug addictions) and harshly dictated when the afamily could see him.
Long story short, after he was buried, we found out they emptied all accounts and took loads of tools and electical goods from his house. All this is being thrashed out with lawyers, but theres one more thing.
They have taken and either stashed or sold his car. All we know is its a citreon C3, reg. Sg13 .....
After asking the police, they need the registration to report it as stolen.
Is there any way to get this information? Bearing in mind we have no documents or (that we know of) pictures of the car?
Many thanks

Doesn't surprise me how sneaky some people get when someone is one there deathbed.
They'll probably say he promised them everything on his deathbed then produce some hand scrawled piece of paper in attempt to prove it.
I've seen it myself with a family friend. They went up to visit when the person was in their last innings and found some woman who they had never heard of organising the persons valuables and possessions into several bags. The person died a few days later and the woman claimed to be a life long friend who nobody had ever heard of. She claimed she had been promised the items.

Have you tried calling the DVLA? when my father passed away a few years ago i contacted them to confirm a list of cars were all in his name. they wanted obviously all his details to the letter and a description of the cars, a few we didn't know registrations but were confirmed by them.
If they wont advise the reg no they will advise if the car is still in his name or has been sold recently.

Possibly he bought it from the local citroen main dealer, old people normally use main dealers, I would start with them, put his name into their system. You will probably be given the "can't tell you, data protection etc.......computer says No" answer.
I would take along a file with his death certificate and loads of other bits of unrelated papers, wear a suit and be very official.
If you turn up in a pair of jeans and with a story they won't help, be profesional and explain why you need the information.......even if it isn't true explain to them that ones right to data protection dies with the person so the act no longer applies

Was there a will, if so this is the duty of the executor to secure the deceased's assets.
If no will you could apply to be administrator. Who registered death, has death certificate?
For the reg number you need access to his house to search for documents, maybe ask other relatives if they remember it.
To pursue this matter further you need to be the executor/administrator of his estate, then banks will have to tell you how much the other family members robbed him of and you can inform the authorities. Be careful though they sound a bit nasty.
