Superdry Co-Founder banned for 120mph on M4.
Discussion
The chap who co-founded Superdry has just been banned for driving for 30 days and fined approx £2000 pounds.
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but 120 is very much frowned upon, and considering the guy is worth £170 million pounds, it's hardly going to hit him in the wallet.
Coupled with the fact that he will probably just pay someone to drive him for a month, there's no inconvenience there either.
So pretty much got off scott free then?

What do you think the punishment ought to have been? Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but 120 is very much frowned upon, and considering the guy is worth £170 million pounds, it's hardly going to hit him in the wallet.

I honestly don't know. But as above, 50 over the limit is quite.a lot, and there is no incentive for him not to do it again.
If the average person received it, obviously it would be.
What's the answer ? No idea, maybe community service, because he certainly won't be inconvenienced by this.
I'm not "anti-rich, or "anti-speeds" in case anyone is wondering btw

The wealthy will always have control.

Well for instance if someone who earns £2000 a month gets a fine of say £1000, then someone earning £50,000 a month should be fined £25,000.and of course have to catch the bus for the duration of the ban.
Say the Judge handed out a prison term. Should rich people go to prison for longer?
A fine and a prison sentence aren't particularly analogous. Unless wealthy people have invented a way to go back in time...
The law already fines people based on means, so the principle exists and is used. Is there particular harm in extending the existing principle, as is done in some other western countries, to further take into account the financial means of the offender?
Being frank I struggle to see the equality in being able to fine someone on £20k a year 100% of their weekly net earnings and someone on £2m a year a far lower percentage, based on the same offending behaviour.

You appear to be saying that if you are rich then everything has to be more expensive.Should the local supermarket charge rich people £10 for a loaf of bread instead of £1. ?
Should rich people be banned from driving for 6 years instead of 6 months?

Not their fault they earn more. This is still a capitalist country, Karl Marx and his mates haven't cracked it here yet mr Corbin. Communism doesnt work, look around the world, want to live like scum, go communist, want to get on in life, be a capitalist. Sure there are poor people as well as rich, but there's the incentive to work hard, do it, and you have half a chanceWhy should someone who earns £2m be fined a lower percentage of their disposable income than someone who earn £20k?
You are misinterpreting.
Buying goods is not a punishment (being dragged around retail outlets by a woman intent on nice shoes notwithstanding).
We've already established time is not analogous with money, meaning a debate on whether rich people should be banned/imprisoned longer is moot.
What is comparable is the financial deterrent and punishment for committing an offence. To the average man, a maximum fine of, say, £2500 is a significant deterrent to misbehaviour. To someone earning one hundred times that each year, it isn't.
By supporting the same maximum fine for someone on £20k as someone on £2m, you are supporting a system that punishes wealthy people less than non-wealthy ones.
I don't support the extrem, that a regulatory offence such as speeding ought to attract 6 figure level, disproportionate fines, though nor am I in support of the current system. A mximum circa £2500 fine for someone earning £40,000 per week is insufficient to deter them, in my opinion.
