A Decibel Too High
Discussion
Dropped into Goodwood on Saturday and had a freebie decibel check (there was a BARC meeting). My Griff 500 with standard exhaust measured 99db one side, 96db the other. I have booked a trackday there next week with a limit of 98db, and they will not take an average! Any cheap ideas for losing one decibel? Does wire wool and chicken wire really work? And why such a difference between my pipes?
Thanks in advance.

I had the same split noise level prob, borderline like yours, but was let out on the track after a recheck of the quiet side!
The chicken wire/wirewool comment was a bit tongue in cheek. However it should work in principle (but not be very long lived ) so if I was looking at being sent home I would deffinately give it a go.
Tailpipe inserts are they way to go. Take em with you &b pop them in if you fail the noise test. Keep em nice & shiny if you dont. I shall be getting some soon.
Alternatively you could waste a load of cash on a new exhaust.
