a difficult one.

I guess this is a question for those of you who are clever at the whole 'law' thing.
A friend of a friend of a friend etc. got accused of rape at the weekend when at a party. He did in fact sleep with the girl in question, who was particularly drunk at the time, but insists his advances were well and truly reciprocated.
He was arrested for rape when she told her mates and the police were called. This girl is a bit of an attention seeker (I do know her, but not well enough to pass judgement) and has been known to cry wolf for attention before. Also a few people who were at this party have said that quite a few things she said didn't add up. Plus she didn't seem all that distraught about the whole event.
Sure enough, 2 days later she has dropped the charges.
I can't help but side with the bloke here.
What I want to know, is will this incident go on his records, despite the fact the girl has dropped the charges? Will he be noted as a possible sex offender?
I know this is perhaps a sensitive issue to post on here, but I can't help but feel that the damage has already been done, and that regardless of this guy's innocence, his name has been dirtied for always. Men are powerless in this situation.
I think women who falsely cry rape are as nasty as those men who actually committ the crime. Both acts ruin lives.

This is the rock where Humberside Police foundered over the Soham case. They had questioned Ian Huntley a number of times after allegations were made against him in the past. But he was never charged, so no records were kept and no data was passed to other police forces.
I wonder what the general practice will be now - keep everything?

Tough one but what if the guy is really innocent??
It could be that the girl in question has had second thoughts/regrets once her actions have become known in the public domain and may have foolishly thought this was her only option.
Scary situation to be in either way.
NOT MY SUBJECT but would have to say that this will follow him. Think of how many times you have heard on the news so and so was questioned regarding a previous allegation of ... if they are ever pulled for anything similar in the future.
I feel very sorry for your mate. I only wish the police could charge this woman with wasting their time. Only they never will for fear that it will put off a real victim from comming forward. Don't care how much help she really needs, she is the true scum of the earth sullying the good name of another in an attempt to achieve her own aim. What if she had wait till it got to court before telling all or he was the fragile type and had topped himself.
My views are particularly strong on this as an ex had suffered a serious sexual attack that included rape, before I knew her, but didn't go to the Police early enough thinking they would not believe her or would think that she was just another one who wished they hadn't consented the night before.
Edited after reading Wedge Girl's post, then realised i should really put it down as a new post as so long...

I have met 4 girls who claimed to have raped. On questioning them further it transpired that they in fact said yes, and that they had decided later that they really werent actually ready for sex yet so have since told everyone else they were raped. Over time they have talked themselves into believing it really was rape.
Moral of the story - stay away from psychotic girls who cant accept the consequences of their actions.

Isn't this similar to the Soham case where Huntley was accused of sex offences but because the case was dropped etc. it was not cross referenced?
I thought if you were arrested for something you would automatically have a "criminal" record and would therefore be known to the police.
I agree that this sort of case is extremely difficult to prove either way and yes your friend will be on some sort of police list so should god forbid he be accused again he is more likely to be found guilty should the case proceed.
Hopefully your friend will learn to keep his manhood under control until he finds out if any future conquests are "psycho-blobes" first!

its also true that girls should be carefull not the get into a situation where they could be attacked. One of my old friends wandered off with a group of blokes at Reading alone to a tent and was gang raped. No charges because she could'nt remember half of it becuase she was so out of it.
