Correct oil?

Time for an oil change, I've done all of 110 miles in six months I know, hang my head in shame, however I've been having a bit of a debate about this. Is 5w/30 a must or would 10w/40 suffice?
Mine is a bog standard 4.0 with 32k on the clock. No frills and doesn't use hardly any oil
Must admit I've never really understood the viscosity malarkey.

Hi Mike, my current Chim did its first 152k miles on 15/50 synthetic. I've just had it rebuilt by John Eales & it's on Millers Classic 20/50 for the first 3k miles. John says that this will be fine for these engines. Just change it every 3k.

There's a few long threads on this. I have a standard 4.0 too and I reckon 10W/40 is fine.

If you drive it in very cold conditions, or do track days with extended period at high revs, then there's a huge range available.

Don't use 5w/30

Think I use Fuchs Titan Race Pro 10W-50

I've just ordered 10L of the Penrite,, I like the zinc level in it and I've been toying what oil to use so let's see what this does. As stated above, always check with your engine builder re oil!

Going against the grain here but Powers said a good quality 10/40 semi synthetic was the one to use. Even with the turbo. As ClassicChimi says, listen to your engine builder (if you have one).

Agreed. After an S6 engine rebuild at Powers Performance, which requires use of 10W40 semi synthetic to maintain the engine warranty, I changed to the same on the Griff 500 from Shell 5W40 fully synthetic. Guess what, no issues and oil consumption has been massively reduced. Think Dom knows something about engines

Ran the stuff last year on COG advise- excellent oil pressure and oil consumption dropped very sharply. My only concern was it a tad on the heavy side at the 60 end of the scale, but I see they now do a 10-50 in the same range, so its gone in for this year. I cant comment if it uses oil yet though.

At 200 miles per annum it wouldn't matter if you used

Hey don't knock the veg!!!! I ran an old 300d merc on that stuff when it was 34p a litre. Nearly 400k on the old girl too.

And yes the miles I've put on trev is a travesty but sadly I've been unable to drive it much this year..

Doesn't oil degrade over time also though??
