What are the real world differences between these 2 apart from one is slightly slower and the other one looks slightly sportier.

I can't find a 2.0TFSI engined A3 on Audi's website - I have of course assumed you mean new rather than used, tho.

The closest is an A3 1.8TFSI Quattro (for petrol engine), which immediately against the S3 is 120ps down. That's not a small amount.

'S' styling, 'S' interior, 'S' wheels, 'S' suspension...the list is long and if you start comparing the saloon version, the standard list is a touch longer with 19" alloys and standard Mag Ride.

Real world differences? The S3 is lower and stiffer and the interior is a bit sportier with better seats. Also...

197 v 261 bhp
207 v 258 lbs
6.9 v 5.5 sec 0-60

So the S3 is a good bit faster, the official MPG figures are almost identical, and they are both in the same tax band. Or they were when I was looking at both a couple of years ago.

I assume you are quoting from last generation S3 there and not the current generation, since the figures are all wrong.

s3 all the way
tuning wise alone, you can get the s3 blocks up to 360bhp. the regular a3 will need a new turbo and rods.

From a performance perspective, the S3 will murder the normal A3 however that's to be expected given one is a performance car and the other is a normal hatchback with a warmish engine.

Probably not a huge amount day to day but if you enjoy pushing on when driving the S3 is the better choice.

S3 needs a remap to make it perform properly, stage 1 is fine - gets you close to 300 BHP and also is OK for the std clutch. Stage 2+ you're then needing air intake, upgraded fuel pump and exhaust, plus a beefier clutch (if no DSG). Stage 1 is a good compromise, mine is plenty quick enough for me I've never thought that it needed any more.
