My 2.9 PDK goes in for service Thursday. 4 years old so first major service. Quoted about 1900 quid. It has only done 15,000 miles are plugs etc really necessary or am I just going to have to wear it to keep warranty? Any comments welcome.

My Cayman 2.9 PDK is going in to Reading on Tuesday for the same - Major / 22000 miles / 4 years old. They quoted me £631 for the service, and £150 for the brake fluid change. I queried that it was more than the fixed price servicing shown on the Porsche web site, but they came back with "that price is from participating dealers only".

I think you will need to stick to the service schedule (including changing the plugs) in order to maintain the warranty. It's not a bad idea to change them, or at least remove them every few years as they can seize in the heads if left too long.

£1900 sounds like a rip off - I would try another OPC.

Rang another dealership and got quoted 740 gbp. Rang the original one back and low and behold they have nearly matched it. So think will stay with the original one as it saves me an extra 75 mile drive each way. So price down by approx 1100 quid. How do they get away with it?

Because people like you still go there anyway?

There is no way I would go there after that little stunt! I wonder what they are going to try on with you next?

I am still going there as it is much more convenient for ME. Saves me about 3 hours extra travel.

Be prepared to be informed of 'additional items' that require doing then.

How can they get £1900!?? Did you get a price breakdown.

I've just had a quote from my OPC for my 4 year major service, and it was £1100. (Cayman R)

Exactly what I was thinking they'll do to get their extra money "back".

1900 ?
OPC cambs quoted me significantly less than that for my 991 GT3, and that was a major, plugs and brake fluid

They may have taken advantage in that my wife booked it in for me as I was busy. When I saw her notes re date and price it was then that I queried it.
