Garage arrest.
Discussion
Fun and games this morning.
I went into the large BP in near my town to pick a couple of bunches of flowers and as I was queuing I saw two of the girls who work there talking to a big bloke in the corner, he looked properly dodgy and was obviously angry but I didn't take much notice, thought he was probably complaining about something.
Just as was stepping across to one of the cashiers I hear a load of noise and shouting and turn to see the bloke charging out of the shop, he's pushed past the girls and run, this is followed immediately by the sound of a fight outside the doors. I step over and look out the window and there's a normal looking guy with glasses wrestling this mad looking b
d on the forecourt.
It's a very busy garage and there are people everywhere including at least five blokes in the queue who are all doing that "Stare fixedly in the opposite direction" thing.
I dropped the flowers, ran out and grabbed the blokes arms to try and help the other bloke get him under control, once up close this bloke is clearly a crack head or something, thrashing about and screaming at the other bloke.
The glasses bloke clearly knows what he's doing and is pushing him down so we can sit on him and hold him still, I did very little, just held on and lent a bit of support. Once he's pinned the glasses guy pulls out his card and shows me, he's an off duty officer who just happened to be in the garage buying flowers for his mum!
The bad guy is still ranting and saying he can't breathe and it's brutality and all that crap but the officer isn't having any of it, the guy is also bleeding from his hands where we've pinned him to the forecourt which is a bit off putting because I'm convinced by this point he's a user (the officer asked him this straight out and he wouldn't answer the question).
We're there about 15 minutes while we wait for the local old bill who eventually arrive and start cuffing him up. it transpires that he came into the garage about a week ago and stole all the charity boxes, the idiot has come back to do it again but the girls recognised him from the cctv (he's very distinctive) and had called the police which is why he shoved them and ran.
I walked back in to the garage to get my flowers and they wouldn't accept any payment! then one of the other girls who works there takes me over to the beer fridge and says "Pick anything you want"!
I'm going "No really I can't this is too much" and she says "No, you absolutely are taking something". I'm pretty emmbarrased by this now so I grab a pack of Corona and thank them profusely.
When I go back out the copper shakes my hand and thanks me and I'm saying "No mate, it was all you, you did a fantastic job". This guy saw it happen and just leapt on the bloke with no hesitation at all, he'd pretty much sewn everything up by the time I got there anyway. When I witness real police work like this close up I feel an enormous respect for what these guys do, i felt like giving him my free flowers and beer!
One thing which I found odd. During the time we were holding this ranting guy on the floor at least 40 blokes walked right past and ignored it. Although we were sitting on him if it been me I would have at least asked if there was anything I could do.
Interesting morning!
Felt a bit of a fraud giving me mum free flowers!

[quote=Cupramax]Admirable that you helped, i think the fact there are so many nut cases around stops the average Joe getting involved now.[/quote
Agreed. I have stepped in to try to help a copper when he's on his own but, nowadays, I don't think I'd chance being the one that tried to stop him initially.
Anyway, well done !

Limes to go with the corona. http://www.wikihow.com/Drink-Corona
Ah apologies for treating it as a piss take!
No, but I never have lime in Corona anyway. Beer and fruit??? Good grief.
Yeah, it was a bit last minute getting flowers from the garage but in my defence I took her out for a day at Knole House and a Carvary in the evening yesterday so I was in front a few brownie points!

Treat yourself. Slice of lime in a corona or a Sol is just the job. No, but I never have lime in Corona anyway. Beer and fruit??? Good grief.

Handily, especially in hot countries, the acid kills off any bugs that might be on the bottle opening too...

Oh I have tried it TT just doesn't taste right to me. I spent a week in Nigeria once drinking Star Beer, was sick as a dog on the last day so maybe I should have "fruited up" the booze. Handily, especially in hot countries, the acid kills off any bugs that might be on the bottle opening too...

Great work bud !
Pleased to see you didn't go down the American route;
