Wondering whether anybody can help ?

Situation -

Worked and payed NI for 27 years.
Took an early severance deal from work.
Haven't paid NI/worked/earn't money in the UK/anywhere in the last 3 years.
I'm currently 47 years old.
Don't know whether I'll work in the UK again.

As far as I was aware I would get 27/30'ths of my state pensions come my state pension age.

Now the state pension has changed and you have to pay in for 35 years to get the NEW maximum amount.

What I'm trying to work out is about buying extra years/making more contributions.

I believe I can make weekly contributions to make up for missed years but this is where I'm getting confused !

Is it to make it up to the 30 years or 35 years ?

There are different amounts to pay depending on your situation.

Anybody understand the situation ?

Try this. Should give you an idea of current pension entitlement and whether it would be worth you making additional contributions.

Yup, you can also contact The State Pension people direct and ask for a pension forecast. They will also tell you what extra years, if any, you can buy.

Yeah, they just played me loads of music to me and made me wait in a queue for a while before I gave up.

Why is it it just seems impossible to talk to anybody these days ??!!

If you've not already done so, you can apply online to get a record of your NI contributions and the top up options for qualification. I just did it via gov webpage as I have over 10 years to make up.
