Hi Paul,
I have the rear box on my xhaust converted to have too straight through pipes in, and the wadding taken out.
Now, this for me is sounds mean enough(but maybe its just the way my motor is as does sound pretty evil) anyhow.
Re the cats, You can take out the pre-cats which will make it sound different too, Not too big a job apparently ,have read of DIYers doing it.If you doe this then it shouldnt make much difference with the emmisions and so you should get through the MOT ok, possible
also a cone of some sort should be placed in there to help keep backforce.
If you take the main Cat out too then you would need the ECU re-mapping and a friendly MOTer or you'll have to change it all back every year.
Think thats about it

de-pre-cat: the indy that did mine took off the manifolds (some bolts v.tricky, new gaskets), one of the pre-cats fell out, one had to be cut out with some welding bsck up on the manifold, manifolds replaced. All well beyond my capabilities, quite expensive.
Left main cat in for reasons explained by BB.
Sleeved silencer (creating straight-through pipe) remove exhaust, cut silencer, insert pipes, re-weld silencer case. Again beyond me, but OK if you can weld, and if you can get exhaust off. £120 at indie, bargain!
So I would say, get the silencer done first and see what you think. Remember it is louder from outside the car - you are benefitting the pedestrians and the car behind more than yourself! Except in tunnels of course...

Guillotine said:The implication being that you can pipe the silencer and fit a better (decatted) manifold, but won't require a re-chip/remap providing the lambda sensors are fitted?
BTW, the main cat is after the Lamda sensors so you won't need a re-chip...won't pass MOT anyway!
Is this true?
Cheers
Pat
