We've just replaced the O/H's Seat Ibiza with a new Golf Cabriolet. Cracking car with the 1.4 TSi 150 engine, which is a peach.

Slightly disappointed to find out on collection that the 3 year warranty only offers breakdown cover for a year. Seems a tad miserly given that everyone else seems to offer the 3 years cover (or 2 with Seat). Or am I being told porkies??

Looks like gospel to me. http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/assistance

I'm surprised. I though it was three years, too.

Just maybe it's because they are not confident in the reliability of the vehicles ! And so can't offer comparable warranties to some other manufacturers , especially the Korean ones and most Japanese.

When I had the AA out to the Passat after 3 weeks the guy commented on the wife's Jazz , he said in 10 years been out to a couple , of punctures and flat battery on Jazz,s but VW and other vags are his bread and butter .

Warranties are 3 years, it's breakdown cover that's the issue here.

Audi, Skoda, Seat : 3-year breakdown. VW, 1 Year. confused

Funnily enough we swapped an Ibiza, that came with 5yrs breakdown cover (and needed it) for a Golf, and it never occurred to me to even think about breakdown cover so I was dismayed to find it was only a year.

I wrote to VW UK and they helpfully told me that many of their customers have breakdown cover on their premium bank accounts, but they do offer 3yrs on Phaeton and Touareg - which seems somewhat contradictory as owners of those are surely more likely to have premium accounts.

I think VW also miss a big trick not extending breakdown cover with each service - our Mercedes, Honda and Mitsubishi all do that and it tips the balance to make dealer servicing worthwhile.

Don't VW do the same as as SEAT? If you get the car serviced with the dealer they'll give you a years breakdown cover or Roadside assist as they call it.

I didn't know this either, I'm sure my 15-plate GTD came with documentation suggesting it was 3-years breakdown cover...

Is it leased, and/or on a full maintenance contract?
