My parents live in Northamptonshire and I was visiting this weekend. i happened to notice a leaflet that Nothants Constabulary had sent out about the speed traps in the area. Included was a nice glossy A4 map of the county with all the current and propopsed fixed camera sites in the county marked on it. There was also a list of radio stations which detailed the location of the mobile speed traps each day.

Unfortunately the map was less than clear - I'm pretty sure none of the roads had a name or number marked on it. But then the symbols for the speed traps were so big that you could only tell which town they were in anyway.

The only speed trap marked clearly was the SPECS camera in Northampton which had its own insert and factfile type thing (In the picture the camera was nicely disguised as a lamppost - battleship grey with two itsy bitsy cameras perched where the lamps would be).

Also the radio stations with details of mobile speedtraps were of the local variety which play more adds than music.

I think this was a mindless - yet expensive - gesture by the local police/council to con us into thinking that the speed traps are not a stealth tax.

Has anyone else seen anything similar?
