Hopefully one or two Audi techs maybe able to help me with this question before I get the spanners out.

I have a 2010 Audi Q5 2.0TDI S-line Quattro.

I have just changed the front pads and discs and now I'm about to do the rears, but.....

The rear lower caliper mounting bolts looks like a real bh to get to and release and torque back up again. Elsawin also talks of 'special' tools....

The build code is 1-KW for the rear brakes and it has 300*12M solid disc's. Can I get these disc's out without removing the caliper mounting brackets or not? I'm getting mixed messages via Google so hopefully the power of Pistonhead's can give me a definitive Yes / No.

Cheers

Won't happen unless it's slackened off.

Sounds similar to the rear end of my R32 (310 x 22 mm vented rear discs). As such, I can confirm there is no way in hell your getting the disc past the caliper mounting bracket. I dare say, you'll not budge the mounting bolt either as you can't get adequate access and leverage with the car 18" or so off the ground. Unless you have a decent impact gun of course...

As for tools, you'll need an M14 spline drive bit.

I gave up on mine after an hour or so and got the guy who services the car to do them. Took him seconds to undo the 4 bolts (2 each side) with the car on a ramp and a 1200mm breaker bar. I think he only charged an hours labour to do the discs and pads so it's a cheap job. Even cheaper if you don't buy the 'special tools' to do it beforehand.

Don't touch the rear brakes unless you have a way of winding back the electric handbrake calipers. A manual windback tool will not do for this.

I have VagCom so I'm happy with the EPB - Its just the caliper bolts that worry me....

Oh well, I'll start and see what happens..

Thanks all!

Just to close out this thread in case somebody else does a search.....

You can't get the disc's out without removing the caliper bracket (as suggested above).

The caliper bracket is held on with two Torque to Yield Bolts (18mm Hex Socket required).

Access is okay from above (working in the wheel well). I managed to remove them easy enough with a 18" breaker bar (fits in the wheel well nicely).

Refitting is 100NM Torque and the a further 90deg turn (which is pretty tight, even with a breaker bar).

Anyway, all back together and they work (as does the EPB).

Happy days....
