recommend me a small umbrella...

Yes it's that time of year again and I'm sick of the missus collection of useless umbrellas which are either broken or will break if a breeze touches them.
There must be a good foldable umbrella that's reasonably tough? just something I can fold up and pop in a carrier bag and won't tear/break at the slightest contact with a breeze...

Well, it makes for an alternative to the What Car threads.
What's your budget, OP?
Just how small is a small umbrella?
Do you care about colour? Do you care about residual values?
Do you need a premium badged German umbrella or might your ego sustain a non-German one?

I have usually found a good raincoat/hood a more reliable way of staying dry, and brollies are not stronger if you spend more on them. Might as well get 5 cheap ones and replace them as they break?

Folds down to a compact size, golf umbrella sized canopy, and wind vents.

Not the ideal time of year to buy an umbrella. With current low temperatures you really need a winter brolly but it will soon be warm enough for a summer brolly. Of course if you live in the South then you can probably get away with a summer brolly all year round.
Umbrella technology has come on a lot in recent years and new compounds have made them a lot better, but there are still some cheaper brands out there with a reputation for being less effective in the rain.
Why not buy a summer and a winter brolly and then spend the next few weeks/ months debating which is the correct one to use on any given day?

I don't know if you're joking, or there are actually different types of brolly?I used to carry a small umbrella every time I went to the pub - small enough to fit in a trouser pocket, and no, it wasn't just so I could squeeze through crowds with it in my pocket. I came to the conclusion that in the first reasonable gust of wind, they're all rubbish. So you might as well get them from Poundland as pay £15 or more from an outdoor shop (a shop catering for people interested in outdoor pursuits, not a shop that is outdoors).
I can roll up my thin waterproof coat (which isn't waterproof, but the label says it is so my wet shirt must be my imagination) into the same size roll, in fact it even fits in the "sleeve" my small brolly was supplied with.

I use this one - there is a smaller one available
