Cerbera windscreen wiper motor upgrade
Discussion
I have just installed an upgraded wiper motor to my Cerbera's Lucas wiper box. It was supplied to me by a well known TVR supplier. However once installed I found that if the windscreen is dry then the motor is so powerful that the spiral drive shaft of the motor jumps off the nylon prawl mechanisium making a horrendous clicking noise. Before I investigate further and take the motor out, has anyone else had the same problem? I have spoken to the supplier but they said it is news to them but keep an eye on it. I think that my old wiper box will last 10mins if this continues.

Good to know that there is somewhere to go then if you've tried everything else. I had my motor refurbed and replaced lots of connectors on the way to the wiper motor including the control box and motor connectors and it is still only just powerful enough to go across the screen dry. The handbook actually advises you to avoid operating the wipers on anything other than a wet screen, which kind of points to a known issue with the wiper performance!
Having been the proud owner of numerous old bangers treasured classic, which benefited form various forms of the Lucas wiper motor and mechanism I have never had one skip as you describe. The problem is as it has done it once it probably deformed the teeth such that it is bound to keep happening. Do either sets of teeth look worn?
Make sure the spiral cable is well greased, the wheel box shafts are oiled and that the hinges on the wiper arms move freely. Disconnect the motor and take off the wiper arms and check the cable pull moves freely.

Install shorter Landrover Defender wiper blades. Less drag on the screen, it will be happier. Edited by SL500 on Wednesday 9th March 10:52
In my case I found that disassembling the complete wiper mechanism and reassembling with fresh grease greatly improved the speed of the wipers. The cover for the tube assembly is held in place with 2 or 3 hex head bolts, once thats off you can see the wheel boxes and guide tubes and disassembly from there is easy.
I installed what I presume to be the same motor upgrade as you a few months ago and I second that new, thick grease should be applied to everything.
I disassembled and re-assembled everything, partly due to a moment of my own stupidity, when I realised that one of the brush magnets from the old motor had fallen in to the gearbox. When spinning the box, this did cause a click as it dragged on the cog.
If everything is really tight and the locating, securing screw that fits in the top of the gearbox is correctly located on the motor shaft, which in turn is wearing its little plastic hat, I see no reason why it should jump teeth.
Good luck.
