mines chassis no 310 registered 13/08/88 so about half way through production as far as I know. There seemed to be a few at the meet last year.

I think the number is "about half way through" the number of TVR's made that year, be they S or 400SE. They made some in 87 as well! As always the bible has more....

Of the cars that attened the S meet about 10 were S1`s
My biggest regret was that I didn`t gather enough info the the cars attending last year. hopfully that can be put right at the next one.

Did someone call ?

I have 324 built and taggged as S1 on file.

This may not be the full picture though as some may never have been owned by members.

How many are still live...now there's a question.

my S1 is still going (kind of, still trying to get engine) and its an October 1987 with the very early type dash.
The indicator etc tell tale bulbs are just lights on the dash has anyone else got this type of dash. i.e no smoked plastic cover?

it may be the oldest still going, what number do you use to get the chassis number.
is it the last 3 digits?

The chassis No = the VIN No. and is generally 17 digits long.

See your V5 or the plate on the car...they should match !

if they don't.

Hello 21502.

When you say registered...do u mean "First Registered" as on the V5 ?

Your Works Order No was 88/0310....but that means the 310th chassis in 88, not the 310th S.

At the Silverstone meet last year I counted 5 true S1's mine included. Bills1 was the oldest I saw, my one second reg 5/apr/88.

There were quite a few variants of the S1.5, easiest way I've found to tell S1 from S1.5 is that you can not lock the doors on a S1 from the inside i.e. no locking plunger near the window. All S1.5's I've seen have this like the S2's. Of course I stand to be corrected as nothing is ever "standard" on a TVR

you are talking to an ex MOT tester and i have owned and traded hundreds of cars
i wondered what the number of production in that year was respresented within the VIN no. or more to the point what number my car is IS it the last 3 digits????????

Thanks for the info re chassis no. Now I know.
It seems to be a true s1 though as you cant lock the doors from the inside.

Off the top of my head I can't remember the month but mine was the 320th TVR in 1988. bills1 is the earliest 1988 S1 I know of followed very closely by craigy 2 cars later. I would have to assume that bondingi has the oldest S1 being the 234th TVR in 1987.

I wonder if there are any of the first 20 or so still around that have two bonnet release leavers, one in each footwell.

Are the '87 ones mentioned on the thread like this ?
