Next stage of upgrades for the car - I am removing the rear arches to have them repaired/resprayed, is there an easy to get these off?....I can see about 80% of the bolts its the remaining 20% that seem to be half hidden in bodywork...trying to avoid drilling out the rivits to get to the bolts but it's looking like this might have to happen anyway frown

Just did this yesterday.
Rear half should be little bolts and nuts front half screw into rivnuts.
In my case the rivnuts were just spinning in the ali so after various methods of trying to load up the rivnut to stop it spinning I took the angle grinder to the bolt heads.......
The old rivnuts fell into the depths of the rear bodywork unfortunately.

Thanks for the reply, just been out with the spanners to try! thankfully the rivnuts were fine and have come off nicely - just have two left that are towards the rear - one I can get to easily the other might be tricky...

Over the years I have restored many sevens and have encounted problems replacing the rivnuts and on the earlier cars the threaded rubber bushes that were used on some fixings on both rear wings and the original American front wings. However careful you are you will end up with a much larger hole in aluminium panel and will have to use a larger rivnut. If you find the aluminium is unacceptably thin and you don't wish to drill other holes there are a selection of fixings used mainly for blind fixings in plaster board, not the best of solutions but will save a very expensive repanel job and perhaps a better alternative to the original. If you have such a car that needs a major resto and your fed up with it, I,m a retired bod looking for a project. Hi Baz
Yes, all rivnuts on the rear wing I removed, were free and have left a hole about 3/8"
Was thinking exactly the same thing about plasterboard fixings, the plastic ones that expand the inner end like a concertina. Alternatives were to add a second layer of ali that would sit under the plastic sealing strip.

I used these on my Caterham. Drilled out the rivnuts and secured these in place with pop rivets.

Steel against aluminium not ideal but where did you get them from?

Excellente!
The smaller ones fixed with the threaded bit inside the panel - job's a good'un

Might even remove the other wing to fit some of these.

As an aside, I'm planning on replacing the rear wing/arch as its got a bit of damage - anyone tried the ones on fleabay? Or am I better off with a one from Redline _ I suspect the latter but thought I'd ask.

just had a quote for blasting the rear axle locally - cheaper than a couple of wire brushes - then just waiting for Rakeway's axle conversion to be made.
